GEORGETOWN Colorado- An East Coast tourist train operation has won the bid to run the Georgetown Loop Railroad.

Railstar Corporation was notified Wednesday that the state of Colorado intends to award it the contract to operate the railroad. This makes the future of the historic site much more secure.
>editorial insert - debatable<

There was concern that 2004 might be the last year that the Georgetown Loop would run after failed contract negotiations with the current operator. Railstar operates tourist trains in Maine and New York in addition to restoring train equipment.

The company's managers are excited about running the current line and expanding in the future. "We'd look forward toward maybe expanding into other areas, other possible ventures in the immediate area between Georgetown and Silver Plume; tourist related activities that would be consistent with the railroad and historic park," said Ron Trottier, Railstar General Manager.

The deal is nearly done, but not yet official because the final details regarding the contract still have to be worked out with the Colorado Historical Society. Final negotiations with Railstar will start soon and should be wrapped up
by this fall. If all goes as planned they'll take over the operation in early 2005.
