Post subject:  RPO Mail Hook Needed for Restoration

Thronateeska Heritage Center in Albany, GA is in the process of restoring Atlantic Coast Line RPO 13 for static exhibit at the museum. We are in search of one or two mail hooks to be installed on the car to complete its external operating appearance circa 1953. We have obtained drawings for the hooks and safety bars, and we could fabricate the hooks except for the casting where the swing bar and the hook join.

If anyone has a hook they would be willing to part with in order to help complete this restoration, please contact me by e-mail. Thanks.

I'm no expert about this part, but I'm surprised that no railroad had to deal with this problem by replacing the casting with a weldment, that is, making the whole thing in the weld shop instead of the blacksmith shop or foundery.
