Folks,
This car is a long way from Union; and remember that the museum already has 5 or 6 Rock Island commuter cars. They have spent a lot of volunteer hours getting them in shape to host major events like Thomas the Bank engine at the museum.

Didn't IRM purchase two RI commuter cars from the Galveston museum which were inundated with salt water during a hurricane? Last I read on a blog or Rail & Wire was that IRM was building wheel chocks for them? What happened to these cars? Presumably scrapped? Parts source?

There was 3 cars in Galveston at one time, I rode them as a kid. They degraded substantially over the years - Galveston's salt air is bad for steel - and were last seen in one of the yards near the Museum.
There was a photo posted on facebook recently, but I can't find it.

Looking at that compilation of surviving RI cars, I'm mystified.

Texas State Railroad has an entire fleet of ex-Rock Island commuter cars, and I don't have the original car numbers of any of them. Yet I don't see them on that disposition list, either, which poses even more questions.
