Folks, This car is a long way from Union; and remember that the museum already has 5 or 6 Rock Island commuter cars. They have spent a lot of volunteer hours getting them in shape to host major events like Thomas the Bank engine at the museum. Ted Miles, IRM Member |

Didn't IRM purchase two RI commuter cars from the Galveston museum which were inundated with salt water during a hurricane? Last I read on a blog or Rail & Wire was that IRM was building wheel chocks for them? What happened to these cars? Presumably scrapped? Parts source? Bob |

Bob There was 3 cars in Galveston at one time, I rode them as a kid. They degraded substantially over the years - Galveston's salt air is bad for steel - and were last seen in one of the yards near the Museum. There was a photo posted on facebook recently, but I can't find it. CD |

Looking at that compilation of surviving RI cars, I'm mystified. Texas State Railroad has an entire fleet of ex-Rock Island commuter cars, and I don't have the original car numbers of any of them. Yet I don't see them on that disposition list, either, which poses even more questions. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPi ... id=3614163 |
