After almost a year of sitting idle in St.Thomas, Ontario, the conversion of Reading 2100 to an oil burner will begin by the end of April. Allot of the red tape Tom Payne had to cut through has been cleared and he is eager to get started. Once started, he hopes to be completed within two or three months.
Besides fuel conversion, the boiler has to pass Canadian standards, which are stricter than U.S. standards, and the auxilary tender he has bought has to be converted to carry water only. So hopefully by mid summer we will see 2100 doing test runs in the former New York Central yard in St.Thomas.
rsterne@home.com |
