If anyone wants to see these monsters in action we have pretty nice tape, from 16mm film, and with DM&IR authentic audio to go with it. The photographer, Maynard Laing made trips in 1958 and 1959 to the Winnipeg, Canada area, and on each trip they dropped down to the DM&IR for a couple of days. I pulled the DM&IR out and made a separate video of just that subject. Pretty awesome seeing one working a loaded ore train as you are pacing, then another one with empties going roaring by the other direction, and they had the audio to match. A rare treasure indeed!
We got some help from the folks in Duluth, and you will see 227,228,220, and a couple of others in operation. A picture of the video case is below. Go to VINTAGE on the web site for details on the video. They had more tractive effort than the U.P. Big Boys!
