Recently while speaking with my father I discovered that my Great-uncle was the Chief Engineer for the Big 4 Railroad (CCC&StL RR)in the 1920's. I have little information concerning this railroad other than it was absorbed in the late 1920's by the New York Central System. Does anyone out there have any info on the Big 4?
Thanks in advance.

An excelent source for the Indiana portions of the Big 4 (and for any other Indiana Railroads) is the book "Railroads of Indiana" by Richard S. Simons and Francis H. Parker. Basically, the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis railroad made up the majority of the New York Central lines in the state of Indiana. The Big 4 had lines radiating in 6 directions from Indianapolis.
