Post subject: UPDATED: Surviving World Steam Locomotives for Windows
PostPosted: Sat Jul 18, 1998 12:02 pm
Surviving World Steam Locomotives is a program for Microsoft Windows. It includes a database containing over two-thirds of the steam locomotives still in existence worldwide. Surviving World Steam Locomotives does *not* require an internet connection; so you can install it on a notebook computer and take it with you on your next trip, even to locations without a phone connection.
The database has been updated for the month of May, 1999. It now contains 14,800 steam locomotives; up 1,400 since the program's release in November, 1998. Roughly 1,500 records have also been updated or completed; several duplicates have also been identified and deleted.
The database also includes 151 photographs and three sound clips; the photographs now include such rarities as a early "boot boiler" Shay, a Dickson-built 0-6-2T, the sole remaining 0-6-6-0 Baldwin Mallet, an operating steam tram, and two new replica steam locomotives operational at the southern-most railway in the world. You can also add your own photographs to the database.
Those who have already purchased a copy are being offered an update. This update includes 15 pictures that do not ship with the program. Among these pictures are the remains of a Wanamie "Lokie" on the grounds at Wanamie, a Williamette geared locomotive, and a steam locomotive lying on its side in 90
feet of water at the bottom of a lead mine; the first underwater photograph to be included in a project of this type. Another update will be offered in November, which will include 15 additional photographs. Updates also include an "Update Wizard", which transfers pictures and sound clip links to the update from your current copy before overwriting it. Therefore, you do not
have to worry about losing your picture collection with each update.
Thank you for your time.
-James Hefner
Hebrews 10:20a
