No. 3 is one of JR May's favorite pieces. He and Wayne Laepple were instrumental in helping me get it to Youngstown. It is an interesting piece of equipment and I get a lot of questions about it from visitors. It occupies a central spot on the grounds behind the Tod Engine building. Maybe someday I will get around to fixing some frayed wires and we can make it move under its own power again.

Interesting thread for sure. The #3 is so fascinating to me. I do need to get there for all of the experience of what has been done there. My personal interest have usually been in logging and mining short line activities, but the following the ore to the steel mill is another whole realm of cool. Regards and a happy Thanksgiving to all. John.

Yes, the #3 is an interesting piece. An early electric, having been built by Baldwin in 1912 and running up in to the 1990s. Really a time capsule which is what catches my eye on most anything these days. The classic “barn find” complete with the last operator’s broom and sunglasses. It was supposed to be an easy move, small and lite, but no, it’s tall, long and heavy. Being narrow gauge and PRR, a unique combo, grabs my interest further.

Additional details can be found at a previous RyPN post:

With luck, at some point it can be made operational again. If it were a few hours closer to home, it would be running by now.
