Stephen Hussar provided this link to recent photos of this Royal Hudson in California (scroll down on the family photos). I was surprised it is not under cover. Anyone know if the stack is covered, asbestos removed or other stabilization/protection work done on it? What is the private car behind?http://marvmackey.com/photo_local.htm

I would assume the asbestos was removed before the Southern ran it.

Fairly safe to say that I have access to photos of 2839 stripped (including no asbestos) for rebuilding in 1972-73 by Atlantic Central (Eagleson, Ziel, and another partner, as I recall).

Royal Hudson had 5 partners-- Eagleson, Ziel, Peter VanderVeld (EL trainmaster), and I think additionaly Howard Serig and Victor Hand.RH Co. leased 2839 to Atlantic Central in late 1972. AC was primarily former Quakertown & Eastern people, as I recall-- Bob Spanagle, Don Fenstermacher, etc. When 2839 was at AC's location at Northhampton & Bath in PA's "cement country" in 1972-76, the jacket and lagging were off.The "California" biz car was at Edaville, rotting away, when Nethercutt obtained it. I think it was a B&M biz car, given to Blount by his good friend Pat McGinnis, who also gave FNB the 1455 and 3713.
