A better one is-

CHEAP
FAST
GOOD

Pick any two....

I seen the pictures of SP&S 700 getting it's wheels trued on the frame in their shop-in fact it's still there.

I'm sure they would appreciate a call letting them know they are cheap hacks and they should just turn over all that smart work to TVRM....

When working on the steam locos in Nairobi, Kenya ten years ago we put the very worn tires of 30 class, 3020 across the Hegenscheidt in-ground lathe with good results.

Now ten years later I find myself in New Zealand. It is common practice here to turn the tires of the Mainline Steam fleet on the national railway company (KiwiRail) in-ground Hegenscheidt's when needed.

The locos have their rods dropped at the steam depot and are then towed to the lathe.

Unfortunately, the loco I'm here to work on a former Zimbabwe 14A Garratt. We cannot tow the loco because the back to back measurement of the Cape Gauge (42") is different in Southern Africa than it is here in New Zealand by 7 mm with New Zealand being larger and strictly enforced so we will have had to drop all the wheel sets (ten axles) and send them to a third party to be turned on a large conventional lathe.
