On an excursion in 1978. I don't think it has operated much since then, and not sure where it is presently. http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?n ... anColl.jpg |

The 21 (a Hall-Scott car BTW) is in the CSRM collection at Sacramento, CA last I saw it, on display in the CP depot. It resided at Rio Vista Junction for a while after this photo was taken, and was privately owned, don't know if it still is. Chris |

The photo was taken when NCB 21 was opeerated on an excursion between Stockton and Sacramento (or vv) on the Central California Traction Company. Current ownership of the car remains subject to debate. |

Folks, The Dootlebug with its original gas engine is in the Central Pacific replica station in Sacramento last I know. The car left Rio Vista for Railfair 1981 and has not been back. I have not seen it run since it was in Sacramento at the California State Railroad Museum. There was some speculation here on RYPN about a Santa Fe gas car (now Diesel) which was in the CRRM collection for many years going to another museum. Any news about the car? Ted Miles |

I thought the NCB #21 at one time was owned by Dick Reynolds? In about 1983 when CSRM only operated one weekend a year they were running the #21 from the CP depot to the bridge while the steam train ran down to the run around. On the way back to the depot the operator stalled the gas car and couldn't get it started because the batteries were not being charged, if I remember correctly the charging generator was missing. Anyway everyone gets out and a bunch of people start pushing, yeah right. Well it was moving along and it starts jerking, the operator was trying to compression start it. Dang if it didn't light off and we all hopped back on and headed for the depot. I'll never forget that day, lots of fun. Richard Wilkens |

Santa Fe M-190 went off to New Mexico. I saw it up on flat cars inside the CSRM shop several months ago. Here are some photos of the M-190 at Albuquerque on the flat cars: http://www.pbase.com/intermodal/m190_doodlebug |

Is this a direct drive car? I Presume so due to the story of the bush start at CSRM. |

The #21 moved into the roundhouse at some point within the last month, it (and the boxcab diesel behind it in your shots) were still out in the CP depot when I was there in mid-October. Jeff Moore Elko, NV |

Some background. The Nevada Copper Belt 21, otherwise known as the "Yerington" was owned by Dick Reyonlds. On January 28, 1978, with a good crowd of passengers, it was moved from the Central California Traction Company shop in Stockton to the Western Railway Museum (Rio Vista Junction). It ran on its own power on the CCT from Stockton to the Southern Pacific connection at Polk (Sacramento) and then on its own on the SP to the Sacramento Northern's Haggin Yard in Sacramento. At Haggin it was added to a SN freight that took it to Cannon, the connection between the Sacramento Northern and SP. It ran the last leg, from Cannon to the museum, on its own. |
