The photo below is of an Andrew Barclay built (1882) 0-4-0T on display in Resistencia, Argentina. Note that it is resting on cribbing suspended about 8 or 10 inches above the rails. Little triangular pieces of metal have been welded to the rail to prevent, I assume, the locomotive from rolling. According to our correspondent, the little critter has been suspended like this for "decades".

I can think of two reasons why it was jacked up. 1. to change out a wheel set. 2. to watch the rotating assemblies for problems while not having to walk by it. 3. Tom C. |

Maybe it's parked in a bad neighborhood and somebody tried to steal the brass. |

The crew of four dedicated volunteers started working on it in 1972 and things went well for the first few weeks until they had to decide on the correct shade of red for the frame. Two of the guys left in a huff following that discussion, a few weeks later one went back to college, and the last guy to work on the thing got married. None have been heard from since, although one of them is believed to have the whistle in his garage. Then the club committed resources to this gem to go along with the engine and you know the rest of the story.....

Wesley This is Argentina, no? It may be closer to the truth than we want to know that they dissapeared and no one ever heard from them again... |
