FGLK 1703 - GP9 - Originally MILW GP9 331.
currently operating with FGLK.

FGLK 1751 - GP9 - Originally C&O GP9 6128.
currently operating with FGLK. (still a high-hood)

BRW 752 is a former CUT unit, by way of VTR. BRW 1848 (or 1849) former BAR, then VTR, is at Winchester and Western, NJ for repairs.

Former NKP 459, 475, 517, 520 and 811 are rotated into and out of daily service at Winchester and Western in NJ. All are in excellent condition, in a black NKP paint scheme, and all but 811 have had a very tasteful chop-nose conversion; the conversion looks like something the NKP would have eventually done themselves.

I saw all five, plus their NYC GP-9 "cousins", WW 732 and WW 752, only yesterday. WWNJ also had an ex-PRR/Conrail GP-10, WW 575, but it is now down on the WW Virginia operations. There are other Geeps down there, but I don't have any other information on them; someday I'll get down there.

I believe the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville, IN has one of each. NKP GP7 #426 and Union Pacific GP9 #200 (painted blue?). Both still have high hoods.

Hey Les, maybe trade something for the CNW 40' boxcar from Lawrence Foods that they promised IRM a few years ago? :)

Out West the Idaho Northern Pacific R.R. (part of Rio Grande Corp) have a pair of GP7's 2074/94 (ex ATSF 2876 & 2773) on the former U.P. branch from La Grande OR to Elgin. They have also acquired four GP9R's 4600/3/6/8 (ex GTW 4443, 4431, 4914 & 4456) which are based in Emmett ID presumably for their 'Thunder Mountain Line' tourist operation on parts of the ex U.P. Mc.Call Branch. A few years ago a large silo in Bliss ID was still using a GP7/9 to switch their yard - not been past recently to see if it's still there.

Ray -

Since you have brought this old thread back up, I guess the question about C&NW 4160 might be relevant again. What did IRM decide to do with the unit originally planned to be used as a "parts supply" but then restored to running order and operated over IRM rails.

Thanks for the info on the Idaho Northern Pacific units.

This thread makes me wonder if the last Cartier GMD GP9 is still roaming around. Last I heard it was in Minnesota. I had the misfortune of seeing the 180 get cut apart. This was my favorite road switcher of all time. The 179 was sent away from west Michigan a year or so later. Last I saw her, she was dark blue and looked like she was painted with a mop.

There is an ex GN GP9 that we tried to aquire recently, but the owners decided to repair it and put it back in service. MMRR 24

They haven't been mentioned already I think Pan Am railroad has a heritage GP7 kicking around. I remember a group was trying to rebuild a GP7 567 engin with 645 parts. If I recall the EPA mandates that all rebuilt i.e. modified locomotives (as opposed to restored) meet emition standards I wonder if that ever came up.

Ah, Seaview 1855. I'll tell you what, that one gets pampered. The blue and grey she wears now was designed by John Budynza, one of the owner's employees. (John also did the company logos, etc...) Mostly she just gets used to haul autoracks from the P&W interchange down to NORAD and back single-handedly (last I talked to John, they've had 60-80 cars as a norm). I do know that the MU equipment is somewhat fickle, and that dated back to when it was on the Finger Lakes. The shop guys haven't really worried about it considering that 1855 usually runs solo...

As for that one you're thinking Rowan, I do know that RMNE's B&M geep had a mix of 567 and 645 power assemblies (twisted the crankshaft until it snapped if I recall correctly). I can't remember his name, but I think it was one of the Pioneer Valley guys who saw the extend of the Frankenstein project that Guildford did... Maybe that's the one? Pretty sure it's still in pieces at this point.

You think the GP7 and GP9 might have been successful locmotive designs? Look how many are still around and how many are working in revenue service!

Les,

We run CNW 4160 a couple times a year for the time being. The new parts donor is MBTA 902 which arrived earlier this year. It's literally a shaker box kit of parts, with an electrical cabinet burned to a crisp and a prime mover that's literally just bolted to the frame and not connected to anything.

So when can we expect to see the CNW 284 arriving on our property?
