Karl Johnson sent me some additional photos of older hoppers. There are two at the Western Railway Museum; the shorter one is WP 10429, listed in the WRM roster as a Rogers ballast car, and the other (maybe ex-SP?) doesn't appear in the WRM roster. Both are in ballast car configuration.

And then there are two of these around, one at PTM and one at Seashore... do they count? :)

Well, N&W #28502 sure LOOKS like it could be a two bay car, but hard to tell for sure from these photos. It might actually be a three bay car. N&W class is not shown, so no help there. Better photo needed, or maybe someone from Weiser Railroad (Greenfield Village) or N&W Historical Society could verify.

Frank -

The two hoppers at WRM are interesting, but are ballast cars, not hoppers. No inclusion. Sorry. Electric motor #3618 with hopper doors is a wonderful piece of equipment. But again, not a hopper CAR! HEY, that's three strikes....you're out!

Isn't there a CV 2 bay hopper car over at Essex?

Here is a link for a youtube video of the two abandoned hoppers in Louisiana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyOTPkn ... ults_video

CV 20088, built 1912. Sold ca. 1972 to Wendel Lomba and brought to VRR as "WL 1". Used occasionally as ballast car during the 1970s-early 80s. Transferred to VRR ownership (by death of Lomba?) and restored by VRR about 10 years ago as CV 20088, with VRR herald and phone number on side.

Les,

N&W #28502 is indeed at three bay car. NS/N&W #133215 is also a three bay car.

What's in the cocoon behind the hoppers?

That would be the tender to our 4-4-2 "Atlantic" on display in the roundhouse.

Mr. F -

Thanks for the clarification of N&W hopper #28502. I had a sneaking suspicion it might be a 3 bay car.

Sorry, for posting wrong info. I've always seen N&W 28502 from the Michigan Ave. (US- 12) side of the tracks. Thought from looking at it's size it would of been a NW 2-Bay hopper. Couldn't find other pictures. Thanks to BB2666 for clearing this one up.

I was going through old photos. The first shows an old Wabash 2 bay hopper car on the Toledo, Lake Erie & Western tourist line which runs out of Waterville, Ohio on an old NKP line. The photo on the back reads as follows:

"10-15-95 TLE&W hopper 702 (AEX 204) Providence, Ohio"

The gray-painted car in the photo is one of those "Panel Sided" cars that were common on the Wabash (and a few other railroads) and I believe that AEX was (is?) Anderson's, a grain elevator which is well known for purchasing and rehabbing old railroad equipment for their private use. At one time I believe Anderson's had quite a few of these old Wabash hopperson their roster. Does anyone know if this particular car is still in existance there on the TLE&W?

A gentleman by the name of Walter (last name?) recently sent in a bunch of photos he took in November of 2012 and lo and behold, one of them is of this subject hopper car! I will try to post a copy here. You never quite know when an update to an old thread is going to occur. This one was a pleasant surprise.

Some time back, wasn't there a thread about a string of old hoppers on abandoned track in Louisiana? I think there is something on Youtube about hiking in to view them.
