The Stewartstown Historical Society is sponsoring a lecture by Kurt Bell on the Stewartstown RR and the New Park and Fawn Grove RR. It will be held on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Stewartstown Presbyterian Church, 14 College Ave. in Stewartstown. Should be interesting. I hope to be able to attend. |

Whatever happened to Stewartstown 11? Is it still at Stewartstown or up at Jim Thorpe? (I'm afraid I'm developing an interest in early EMCs and EMDs-) |

Stewartstown #11 (which was leased from George M. Hart) has been in Jim Thorpe since the Stewartstown ended operations on the former PRR Northern Central line. |

A few years ago, the transportation museum in Mont Vernon, NH had a gas mechanical on display lettered Stewartstown RR. I always assumed it was from PA, but as it turns out, there is (was) a Stewartstown RR in NH associated with the pulp-paper industry and this loco came from that. The fact that the transportation museum is now defunct and that the loco is in NH suggests that Stewartstown #6 is from NH, not PA. Can anyone enlighten? |

From "The Story of the Stewartstown Railroad" by Eric J. Bickleman, 1995: #6 "Little Mo": Fate-Root-Heath Co. [Plymouth] 1939, 25-ton, 6-cylinder Leroi gas engine, 12,500 lbs [tractive effort?]; Purchased new $11,385, sold 7-1972 to Wolfeboro RR for $2500, sold 1979 to P. Turgeon, scrap dealer; 1991 to J. Robinson equipment dealer; 1992 to M. Clark, antique truck/RR equipment bdealer. On display in Northampton, NH 1993. |

Stewartstown Railroad "Little Mo" (note the STRT did not use an "e" in the name) was #6. Their "Mighty Mo" is #9 and is still on their property, as is the "remains" of #8 which has been cannibalized over the years to keep the others running. |

The photo of Wolfeboro #9 linked is "spot on" with the three photos of Stewartstown 6 in the Bickleman book and other photos I have seen. The three photos of the green "Stewartstown 9/Little Moe" presented rather obviously all show the same loco or two detailed in precisely the same manner, including the headlight with "382" numbers. I would point out, however, that none of the subtle details--the headlight, longer stack, different bell/whistle, and the handrails--are anything that couldn't have been added on in a day by an incompetent welder at worst. |

So...Stewartstown No 6 (Little Mo) was re-numbered as 9 when it arrived at Wolfeboro...then later someone at Edaville kept the new number but painted "Stewartstown RR" and "Little Moe" on her... glad we cleared that up! ;-)  No. 6, the 25 tonner.  No. 9, the 35 tonner. |

Good news. I just bought this critter and am taking it to my shop for restoration to service. After that, I’m taking it back to its home on the STRT.
