I ended up with an original fuel tank that is the correct size.

The air reservoir that I converted to a fuel tank would have required firewall and mount modifications. This “new” tank has some rust but fits correctly.

The broken and seized front coupler pin has been removed and a new pin is ready for install.

I purchased the mechanical PTO, flywheel, and clutch. It’ll be a nice modern replacement for the Plymouth setup. Uses a commercially available 15.5” truck clutch inside.

The next step will be to remove and send the axles out to get the wheels cut to a proper profile. They are currently worn hollow with high flanges.

Then I’ll start the task of lining up the engine and coupling the PTO output shaft to the transmission input shaft.

Plenty to do, but making progress.

I’ll send better pics as I get them.

What a busy time!

Anyway, the axles are removed, #6 got a lift like it’s never had. That thing is up pretty high. Sorry for the dark pics, it’s nighttime here in Pa.

With the axles out, you do get a better look at how the Plymouth folks built this chassis. Looks strong to me.

Once the wheels are re-profiled to AAR specs, I’ll reinstall them and work to get the chain tension right.

The new coupler pin is installed, along with the original front coupler.

The axles are ready for their trip to the wheel shop. Should be delivered there tomorrow.

I hope I'm wrong but looking at the rims, it doesn't look like there's a lot of meat left to re-profile if they're significantly worn hollow. I'm sure the wheel shop will let you know if they've reached or are close to their limits.

Hi Eric.

They are solid wheels. Just has a witness groove on the outside that makes it look like tires. The tread thickness is still 2”. But, you are correct, the flanges are high and the tread is worn hollow about 1/4”. The flange width is still good, so hopefully they won’t have to take too much off of the good part of the tread.

We’ll see what the shop says. If it needs new wheels, then I’ll have them press some new ones on while they are there.
