Hi all,

As some of you know I've been involved with the Colebrookdale project for some time. My business, The McEvoy Company, has also been there each step of the way.

7580 was built in June 1957 as Pennsylvania Railroad high nose, ling hood forward GP9 7128. Most of its life was spent in New Jersey but occasionally it would venture into Pennsylvania. It would hold this number through the Penn Central era until being rebuilt as a GP10 by Conrail. It was at that time 7128 was christened 7580. Details after this say that in the late 80's she went to Jim Thorpe and was a back up locomotive for Rail Tours. Sometime later it went to a quarry in Annevillle, PA. It was there 7580 served until being pulled from service and replaced by newer motive power. She sat for a few years as the quarry debated scrapping the old warrior. It was then that a friend of mine saved it and brought it to the Colebrookdale.

The McEvoy Company was then asked to restore the locomotive, which was no small task. 7580 worked in a lime quarry for about twenty years and was now almost white! Lime is also corrosive so there was a lot of metal work to address on the short hood. The customer asked to blend several PRR paint styles together that he liked most. A few otter changes were made at their request.

The paint we used was LIC50 urethane single stage manufactured by Valspar. The color is PRR Dark Locomotive Green made from the old DuPont numbers. We had phenomenal results using LIC :on other equipment. The Colebrookdale Railroad also uses LIC50. Average life span in industrial use is about seven to ten years.
