Post subject: museum's equipment reorganization

Hi guys:
I've been involved with my local railroad museum for many years. However, these are my opinions and represent no one but myself.
I've given alot of thought to this over the years. Most railroad museums have acquired pieces of rolling stock and other railroad "stuff" because it was available. Saving it was good. Now that the rr museum cause has matured, I believe it's time to rationalize the collections.
Some examples of what I'm taking about:
A B&O caboose in San Diego
A San Diego & Arizona Eastern passenger car in Perris
A SD&A firetruck in Sacramento
two D&R cars in San Diego
a D&R steam locomotive in Wisconsin
etc.
I believe that these items should go home to their closest railroad museums. When I travel, I don't expect to see a Big Boy in Green Bay - it doesn't belong their.
Do you believe that the railroad museum's have grown up enough to bring this about?
Jim
