Originally built by Pullman as a Plan 2502 private car (leaser) in 1914 the car was sold to the Northern Pacific 22 December 1941, which first numbered the car as NP #6, and then, later, the car was named <I>Jefferson River</I>. It was retired around the time of the Burlington Northern merger (date???) and sold to a private owner. Sad to see this car in this shape.

The Boston/NP #6 Jefferson River is line item #216 all the way back on page #7:

*The Jefferson River is not listed on the Friends of the Burlington Northern website’s business car roster (at merger: http://fobnr.org/bncarlist/passenger/pbnbuscar.htm), so one can make the assumption that it was sold into private ownership sometime before 1970.

The above linked photo of the Alexauken on RR Fallen Flags was taken by David Miller on 6/19/2002.

For comparison, here's another photo of the Alexauken, taken by Jim Trivett on 1/23/2010: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1930186

GN 473 was rebuilt from 1020, according to the GN Passenger Car Diagram Book from 1966. The car was a baggage - express - rider car and would have the rear brakeman riding so that switches along the way could be realigned after the train cleared the main. The conductor would have been further ahead of the train since he was in charge of the train.

Missed this one:

331. Lake Crystal (Lot #4725, Plan #3585G, 1923, 10S-1DR-2C)--sold to UP (1948) donated (when??*) to Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer (Grand Island, NE)

I looked for info on this car on the museum website, but I did not find anything specific.

Looking for photos on Flickr, I found:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/24913367@N06/6796164216 (Steve McKinnis photo)

I'll search for additional photos later.

*According to Don Strack's website, the Lake Crystal was retired in 1962, and Tom Madden's CCR database lists the WFL date as 3/17/1965.

More Mystery Cars:

Both of these cars were formally located at the Saltair Pavilion on the shore of the Great Salt Lake with one of the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western demotorized interurbans, as mentioned in this thread from March 2003: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5442&hilit=great+western+tours

In the linked thread, Boyd Owens posted a link to a page on Doug Kaniuk's website which includes photos of the 2 mystery cars:

332. http://www.dhke.com/railroad/utah/salt02.jpg (Doug Kaniuk photo)

333. http://www.dhke.com/railroad/utah/salt03.jpg (Doug Kaniuk photo)

Does anyone know the identities of these 2 mystery cars? Thanks in advance!

Checking Google Earth satellite imagery, the 2 Pullmans and the SLG&W car are no longer located next to the pavilion. Does anyone know if these cars were scrapped or moved elsewhere? Thanks in advance!

Missed these two:

334. Great Republic (Lot #6325, Plan #4001, 1930, plr [34])--sold to NYNH&H (1945)--sold to Jim Bradley (196?)--sold to Valley RR (1988??)

335. Fox Point (Lot #4391, Plan #2918J, 1916/36, plr-buf-lng-sol-obs)--sold to NYNH&H (1945)--sold to Jim Bradley (196?)--sold to private owner (1988??)

Jim Bradley purchased a total of six Pullman heavyweights from the New Haven in the 1960's, four of which were mentioned earlier in this thread:

25. Forest Hills (Lot #6077, Plan #3916A, 1927, plr [38])--sold to NYNH&H (1945) reconfigured to coach #603 (1949)

55. Philinda (Lot #4264, Plan #2416A, 1914, 1DR-plr [26])--sold to NYNH&H (1945) reconfigured to coach #610 (1949)

64. Breslin Tower (Lot #4846, Plan #4090, 1925/39, 8S-1DR-3DB)--sold to NYNH&H (1948)

122. Stag Hound (Lot #6327, Plan #3999B, 1930, buf-lng-plr [20])--sold to NYNH&H (1945) reconfigured to commuter club #5108 (1957)

All four of these cars are now at RMNE.

The Jim Bradley collection was discussed in this thread: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1530

Several Additions:

First off, a mystery car in Oilville, VA, the subject of this thread: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1739

According to the linked thread, this car was formally part of a restaurant, and before that, was at a branch of the now defunct Heritage Savings & Loan.

At this point, I am not assigning the mystery car in Oilville a new line item number, as I'm wondering if it is the same car that was earlier mentioned as formally being located at the Kennickell's Pullman Palace in Richmond, which I have listed as a 10S lounge observation, with line item #289. I searched for photos and checked Google Earth, but could not find any satellite or photographic evidence of the car's current status or location in Oilville; keep in mind that the linked thread is from May 2001--the only reference in said thread as to the car's location in Oilville being that the adjacent field was used for the annual "Field Day of the Past", a truck-tractor pull in September.

Can anyone confirm/deny that the car in Oilville is indeed the car formally at Kennickell's Pullman Palace or if these are two different cars, and if so, what the respective history/histories are? Thanks in advance!

Now for Part Two:

This linked thread from August 2001 concerns cars of US heritage currently in Canada: http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2039

Mentioned by BRSPaul of the Bytown Railway Society, publishers of the Canadian Trackside Guide, are several cars owned by the Ontario Northland (ONR):

ONR has/had three ex-NP coaches which were rebuilt from Pullman parlors:

336. Bamford (Lot #4239, Plan #2417A, 1914/32/37, 1DR-plr [24], PRR)--sold to NP (1941) reconfigured to #6xx-series coach, sold to ONR (when??)

337. Collingswood (Lot #3804, Plan #2416, 1910, 1DR-plr [26], PRR)--sold to NP (1941) reconfigured to #6xx-series coach, sold to ONR (when??)

338. Daylesford (Lot #3804, Plan #2416, 1910, 1DR-plr [26], PRR)--sold to NP (1941) reconfigured to #6xx-series coach, sold to ONR (when??)

Does anyone have the #6xx-series NP coach numbers for these three cars? Are these cars are still owned by ONR, or have the cars since been scrapped/sold? Thanks in advance!

Also mentioned as owned by ONR (in MofW use):

339. Bala (Lot #4958, Plan #3416, 1926, 1DR-plr [28])--sold to PRR #7056 (1945), sold to ONR (when??)

Does anyone know if the Bala is still in use by ONR, or has it since been scrapped/sold? Thanks in advance!

340. ONR also owned a 12S-1DR sleeper as #1616: http://www.onrhts.org/More-Galleries/Passenger-Service/Passenger-Equipment/3838276_KnV9RK#!i=1324245206&k=wRB6vcd&lb=1&s=XL (Douglas Yuill photo)

Does anyone know the identity of this car? Thanks in advance!

Bamford became NP 630. Later became ONT (the correct reporting mark for Ontario Northland) 1620, 1959.

Collingswood became NP 621. Later became ONT 1622, 1959.

Daylesford became NP 622. Later became ONT 1623 (1959).

Quote:

Bala became PRR 7056, to ONT 1617 (1957).

All cars were apparently still on the roster when the 2004 Canadian Track Side Guide went to print but whether or not they are still around is uncertain. A couple years ago ONT started scrapping their retired passenger cars and any or all of these could have become victims.

Also sold to the ONT were the following additional Pullman cars...

DL&W 205 Imola, nee-PULL, which became ONT 1502 Rules Instruction car (1954) and later became ONT 1611 Kitchen car Extra Gang (1954).

PULL Swinburne, PLAN 3523 6 Compartment - 3 Drawing Room sleeper became ONT lunch counter - club 1402 (1952), to ONT 1884 Recreation Extra Gang car (1982).

PULL Witmer Plan 2416A parlor - Drawing Room to NP, rblt. to coach NP 608, to ONT 1621 B&B service (1959).

PULL Clymer Plan 2416A parlor - Drawing Room to NP, rblt. to coach 619, to ONT 1625 sleeper (no date).

I'll have the histories for all of the MofW cars linked to when I update the Ontario Northland page sometime in the Fall.
