So we were visiting a local railway club, the Østsjællands Jernbaneklub, and they had something in their small museum that we never expected. It is a "car pusher", a pole with a shoe for nudging railway cars (or even locomotives) a few inches at a time or to get them rolling.

We are in Copenhagen. This car pusher was manufactured in Appleton, Wisconsin, and is the Badger brand. Interesting how the purchasing department at the Danish national railways (DSB) decided to purchase these from America.

Neat to see one of those over in Europe. I think they were made by multiple manufacturers over here and used to be very common at customer sites and car shops, and they are useful enough that there are still a few hidden away in strategic spots. We have a few at our museum and I've used them around the shop quite a few times over the years.

This old Canadian National Film Board documentary on grain transportation contains a clip of one being used, starting at the 8:30 mark.

A while back we were cleaning out the storage place of a late member and recovered several of these. They are quite useful in the shop.

They're still available from McMaster-Carr. Not sure of current manufacturer.
