This looks like the ex-Army engine at Cass, WV.

Wow, pretty rough! Hope all the missing stuff is under lock and key somewhere in case somebody does want to rebuild her.

Wasn't this already sold to a private individual over the the couple months or so? I thought I heard it was to leave Cass soon.

It was sold to a private party...it was pulled off the deadline last fall, and moved to the C&O tracks for future shipment to it's new owner. From what I read on the classifieds, it would appear that the buyer is looking to turn around, and sell the 612 as is, on site.

The 612 looks no worse than the US Army 611, the poppet-valve equipped 2-8-0 which the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum sold a few years ago. At least 612 has a tender, I don't think I ever saw 611's tender during its' stay at TVRM, but then again I'm sure a lot of parts were in storage as well. It would be nice to see the 612 at least find a good home for a cosmetic restoration.
