The 630 is undergoing testing on the TVRM this weekend and next week. A crewmember said they hope to have her ready for work on the Missionary Ridge Local next weekend.

Who is the guy at approx 0:50 in the youtube video? It sure does look like Bob Saxton from the old NS Steam Team. I believe he still works for NS in the Chicago area. I wonder if he will be involved in the new version of the NS steam program?

Good chance it is Bob. He's very savvy and should remember this engine.

That indeed is Bob Saxtan, and he is highly involved with the NS program. Bob was relocated to Chattanooga several months ago specificially for this assignment.

Any word on if #630 will be pulling the mission ridge local this weekend? I'm prepared to drop all my plans and run down to Chattanooga...

Congrats to the TVRM crew!

I did some research, but could not find my answer.
Does anyone know if there are ANY other engines out there RUNNING with "Southern" type valve gear other than the 630?

Wonder if they have an auxillary tender for her??

As Kevin mentioned, TVRM has WT 51, which was the auxillary water tender used regularly behind 630's sister 722 during service on the Southern Steam program. The auxillary water tender used with 630 during its Southern excursion service WT 49 is (or was) at the Kentucky Railway Museum and was used with L&N 4-6-2 152 during its mainline excursion trips on the Seaboard System/CSX and Norfolk Southern in the mid to late 1980s.

KRM has 2 ex Southern auxiliary tenders. One is WT 49 and I do not know the number on the other one. They were received in trade to Southern for the ex-L&N 2-8-4 tender that trailed 610 and 2716 during their excursion careers. I think this is the tender that was at VMT that is now going to FWRHS.

What is the heritage of the TVRM/KRM water tenders, from what I've seen, it had a coal bunker from the looks of the rivets, but where were they originally from?

The WT51 is a Southern Railway converted locomotive tender. It was originally a 7,500 gallon tender which means it could be from another Ms Class locomotive (4501 sister). We have the drawing for the conversion but I cannot tell you which shop performed the modification. Maybe one day we can figure out was the last locomotive it was behind as an actual tender. I presume the conversion was for MoW service.
