Is your locomotive Y2K compliant? I would hate to see the safety valves stop working at midnight when the onboard computer realizes that it is 1900 and the safety valves haven't been made yet!
Of course, if you have a 100 year old locomotive it may think that it is new again and run just like it did when delivered from the factory.
I just love stuff from the pre computer age!

Post subject: Re: Y2K Contingency Planning

We did receive a request from the Federal Transit Authority regarding our contingency planning and testing for Y2K matters at our streetcar system. In the office, we sharpened our pencils, checked the motor on the Monroe Comptometer, checked our stock of writing paper and cleaned the dispatcher's chalkboard. In the shop, we looked for any date sensitive computer chips and didn't find any. In fact, we didn't find a circuit board or chip one. We can report, however, that the controllers have new brass fingers and segments and the brushes in the motors look ok. What else should we look at? (Yes I am overlooking our connection to TXU Electric and the fact the we can't operate if they don't provide power. I suppose our only true backup for Y2K is a Stephenson horsecar and a borrowed horse from the surrey survice.)
