Hello, I'm new to the forum. My name is John Reagon, I've worked for Reader Railroad and figured I'd share a few videos at my time there.

Someone, and I guess it's going to be up to the general public, needs to get a huge donation going for the Reader.

The Reader management has just started an operation in Florida, which hopefully will (adequately capitalized) turn into a profitable and reliable year round source of revenue. If you want to make donations, perhaps a chartered nonprofit pursuing interesting missions might be a rational choice right now. I wouldn't confuse them with unsuccessful operators.

John,

Please let us know a little about recent developments at the Reader. There hasn't been much news lately (except for the Florida operation).

Looks like there might be some usable track around Reader now.

Glen -

When I saw the DVD's, I wondered if this was the track that the old Reader Railroad once ran on, and if so, how far the train currently runs. Here is a posting in an old "Official Guide":

Reader, Ark.
Ada 0.5 miles
Dewoody Spur 3.0 miles
Cummings Springs 5.3 miles
Dills Mill 12.2 miles
Anthony Switch 17.0 miles
Ames 19.8 miles
Waterloo, Ark. 23.5 miles

From the speed of the train in the DVD, my guess is that they don't go all the way to Waterloo (where the old asphalt plant was I believe), but how far DO they go? There were some sidings shown, so maybe these were the "close-in" stations. Also, I assume that the depot was the one at Reader; but is that really the case? Some unanswered questions.

Les,

Quite right, most of the track to Waterloo is long gone. I'm not sure how much is left, but I believe it is a small percentage. Maybe John can fill us in.

To the best of my knowledge, the track only extends to the Route 24 crossing at Camp DeWoody.

Dear Les, the train shown in the DVD went to Ada, AR from the Reader Park. The trackage is nearly only 1.4 miles long at this present time. I do believe. The track that extends to Camp DeWoody is currently out of service.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks,
John C. Reagon

John -

Thanks very much for the clarification.
