Post subject:  Archeology, sandpaper and some Troop Kitchen car help needed

Greetings!

Ryan Kertis and I have spent some of our time the last two Saturdays at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, looking for information on our former U.S. Army Troop Kitchen car.

After being acquired as surplus after the war, this car was supposedly once assigned to one of the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad's wreck trains. Some time ago, I did some sanding on the car and found the later Missouri Pacific work car number X15096. Then last week, Ryan was able to sand off some additional paint exposing the C&EI maintenance-of-way car number; A-1054. This week, we found what appears to be the original U.S.A. number 325 (probably K-325). We eventually would like to repaint and reletter this car for the C&EI but would like to find some photos of the car as it appeared in its paint scheme with the railroads name spelled across the letterboard and the MofW number and its work assignment in large letters on the right lower end of the car, with a large C&EI in the lower left end. We are hoping that someone out there might have a photo of A-1054 showing its lettering as described above.

Thanks.

Les Beckman (Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum/North Judson, Indiana)
