The Chelatchie Prairie RR out of Yacolt, WA has four UP double deck sheep cars. Two have been converted to open passenger cars. We scrapped a lot of these in the early 1980s when I worked for Purdy in Seattle. You can see the cars here:

The last regular shipments of livestock by rail were the "Farmer John" cars on Union Pacific. They were loaded with hogs in Nebraska and probably Iowa, and came into Southern California on the former LA & Salt Lake line. Their destination was Clougherty Packing Co. in Vernon, so the last few miles may have been on the LA Junction Ry. When my wife and I drove through Nebraska in June 1990, we saw a stock car with HOGX reporting marks being loaded, and this was near the end for the "real pig train". Alas, none of these cars were preserved.

Hi Bob:

The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum has preserved a "Farmer John" stockcar.
Here's info on the car: https://www.psrm.org/trains/freight/up-43009/

When I worked in the HDC in the 1990s we had to closely monitored the pickups so as not to delay the outbound intermodal out of NPLT. At the end Hogs were loaded at Valley, NE and Marysville, KS and some third location I don't recall. (Ogallala perhaps?) They were brought into North Platte and consolidated onto the head end of an LA Intermodal train. (CSLAT at one time)
Of course once loaded if any of the cars developed a bad order and had to be set out you needed to send the car dept. immediately and then find an alternate ride for the car to LA. I don't know how profitable they were bit they were a very labor and management intensive move.

Not sure if these are on the list yet, the Alberta Railway Museum in Edmonton and Heritage Park in Calgary each have a stock car.

Heritage Park's is Northern Alberta 20006.

The Canadian Trackside Guide is a good source for information north of the border.
