Well, it is that time of the year again folks, the grass is growing, the weather gets warmer and best of all the museums and tourist railroads in the county open there doors for another year of railroading. This year I am proud to say after a record number of work days and volunteers at the Railroad Museum of Long Island we are also ready to open our doors this coming Saturday!

To try and spruce up the museum we have installed a new fence, painted equipment and installed new exhibits. Another important aspect of this process has become teaming up with local organizations to help, doing what they enjoy and specialize in. This past weekend we had the Long Island Garden Railway Society and the Riverhead Garden club on hand to perform maintenance. The museum has never looked better! I am extremely proud of all this little museum has done in the last six years since I first joined up! It is great to see people in the community coming together to make a destination for tourists in all areas of intrest not just trains.

On my front we got another coat of paint onto our little 25 toner while we started to apply PRR Tuscan red to our baggage car. It looks stunning!!!!! We also played host to a local photographer and model in one of our passenger cars this past weekend. We are super busy out here on Long Island. The following blog posts will sum our progress up:

That baggage car looks spectacular! Nice color match, too. Get some PRR golden-buff for the lettering. I am gratified and impressed with the look of that B60. Nice work. Please convey my appreciation to Don Fisher, as well!

Hi Richard,

Thank you for your kind words. I have sent them to Don.

Well folks,

A few more days before we open and we just keep knocking stuff off of the list. Our baggage car is all painted two coats later and looking great. Check out our blog for more photos and info. Hope to see you all out at the museum soon.
