Orange Empire Railway Museum's UP E8 942, refurbished, made her debut Saturday with four of the Museum UP cars. She is the only E-unit in full UP colors because she has both her engines. The corporate fleet units are really something like SD38-2s, i.e., a modern single engine (with modern electronics) in a E-unit shell. And she sounds and looks wonderful. Note there are a few scattered ex-UP E-units but in other paint schemes.

The cars are starting behind the engine:
Pullman Sleeper National Scene, Pullman-Standard, 1956
Diner buffet-lounge 4051, Pullman, 1928, later modernized
Parlor car 1530, Pullman, 1924, modernized 1954
Chair car 542, Pullman, 1926, rebuilt 1950.

You better believe there are some really proud volunteers here. Many worked on the project and the project manager who made it come together was Dave Althaus.

Outstanding job! Just need a baggage or RPO (and maybe a dome) and you're officially set. UP probably has head end cars somewhere they could donate.

Wonder what it would take to get #942 and UP's #949 and #951 all lined up in a row. That would be a great photo op!

OERM does have a UP RPO #2065. It would need some tender loving care to make it happen. We also have a Rules Examiner car that would make a lovely fundraising presentation theater.

There is a UP business car #107 in Pennsylvania just waiting for someone to fund the transportation from non-connected tracks. Anyone willing to pony up?

To Marty and all the volunteers at OERM, great work! Train looks fantastic. Did I read somewhere that UP had their employee picnic this past weekend as well? If so, what kind of feedback did you get from the brass?

Just curious, is the interior of that UP RPO intact or has it been gutted?

Great pictures but I like the ones posted on the UP 942 page on OERM's website better. Seeing the train with the brick platform is just awesome! Major kudos to all of those involved.

2065 doesn't look too bad, sure would be nice to see her restored soon and operating behind 942..

UP 2065 is partial gutted inside. It would likely be an exterior restoration since we have another RPO ATSF 60 with its interior completely intact and displaying as if the crew just went for beans.

The UP 2065 came as a donation direct from the Union Pacific back in the late 1960s after the Post Office eliminated the railway post offices. Over the years, the car has been used for storage purposes, but it has not really been stripped (but it has been years since I was inside it). [But the ATSF 60 has been decorated for its role as a display about postal cars.]

UP 2065 was built back in 1914 as #1267 and soon renumbered in a general UP passenger car renumbering. As the 1267 it was the car that Pullman took a builder's photo of.

With the other UP cars acquired over the years it might be best to keep the 2065 in the yellow. The other option would be to go green to match the other similar SP/UP Harriman style cars at the Museum.

Thanks for all the info. I've always felt sorry for the 2065 as no one seems to have taken an interest in it. But I've been told that it's in barn 7 now so at least it's out of the weather.

BTW, in checking out your roster, it looks like you could put together a pretty good Santa Fe passenger train as well. I don't suppose you're hosting a Santa Fe picnic in the near future???
