I have been in a discussion with a couple of people about surviving roundhouses (also turntables, and engine houses not of a wedge design, or wedge shaped engine houses with a ladder instead of a turntable)

I thought we had a thread on surviving roundhouses but can't find it (we use the word "roundhouse" with some frequency... making a search difficult)

Any ideas where one might find a list? (or lists)

Randy

One that's often overlooked, perhaps because of its gauge (2ft):

Phillips, ME: SR&RL ("The Old Stone Fort"-- a reconstruction on the original foundation)

Chama, New Mexico. D&RGW - C&TS. Only two stalls survive, and the turntable was removed and a switch arrangement substituted.

Knoxville, TN has one at the John Seiver Yard with a turn table and everything, it is still used, the turn table was just recently re-decked.

There is a turntable and small roundhouse at the California State R.R. Museum, although I am not sure whether it is a modern build or not. There are some videos of it being used on YouTube.

44. Not a roundhouse, but an enginehouse: the Mount Rainier Scenic has a 2 stall enginehouse from one of the logging companies, although I can't remember which one.

45. B&O roundhouse, Cleveland, Midwest RY Preservation Society

46. CP roundhouse, Toronto, Toronto RY Museum

47. Grand Truck Pacific RY/CN roundhouse, Biggar, SK, unoccupied, future uncertain

48. MILW roundhouse, Wanasha, MN

49. MILW/CP roundhouse, Davenport, IA

50. MILW roundhouse, Harlowton, MT

51. CP roundhouse, Vancouver, now the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre

52. Great Western RY/Michigan Central enginehouse, London, ONT

53. CN roundhouse, Hornepayne, ONT. What's different about this roundhouse is that the turntable is located inside the structure.

CN Hornepayne is technically a "square house".

CN (formerly ACR) Sault Saint Marie is a square house, as well

Former CN back shop at Capreol is in use by NRE-Alco, is the roundhouse still there?

New Orleans Public Belt roundhouse with turntable, modernized and in use by NOPB

CP roundhouse St, Luc (Montreal) built 1949 in use as CP diesel shop
