Oh yes, wonderful indeed.

As to the number on the E7--"765" could be a reversed "567," the cylinder displacement for EMD's prime movers for so many years. Just speculation of course, but who really knows?

Quick question. Your Dad attended the Fair in 1948. Do you know if he also attended the 1949 version? I believe that C&O 2-6-6-2 #1309 was on exhibit there in 1949. Of course, the engine is now being restored to run on the WMSR. So, just wondering.

Yes he attended it in 1949 also. There are photos from both years.

All photos from August 1949.

I counted 13 different rolls of film that contain photographs from the 1948 & 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair. Well over 100 images.

There is about a 50/50 mix from 1948/1949. I took these out of order since you were interested in the turbine and I remember the Big Boy being in there. I can go back to the 1948 photos and finish them.

Steve, that would be good, if you could complete the 1948 set (because I have my web site photos organized by year). By the way, I took your dad's two 1949 slides of UP "Big Boy" 4022 and spliced them together, with this result:

Come to think of it - I have never seen a photograph of a Big Boy in Chicago. I have only seen photos of them out west. These might be the only photographs of a Big Boy in Chicago left in existence.

I really like the composite that rlsteam put together. I can't even tell where they are spliced.

The splice is behind the first sand dome, around the boiler on a seam, in front of the air reservoir, through the joint in the large steam pipe, in front of the second cylinder, and down a fence slat to the ground. Some cleanup and tweaking were needed, especially the shadow in front of the fence. But your father made it easy by taking both slides from the same position, so no resizing of the second image was needed to make it dovetail with the first. But you can see a slight bend in the running board, just above the air reservoir.

After some study I did notice what you mentioned. What software did you use? It turned out very nice.

I am using PaintShop Pro 7, an older program that was put out by Jasc Software but now is issued by Corel. I have the Jasc version. I have Adobe PhotoShop but I found it was too complicated to learn it when I already know the other program.

I assume you're referring to this thread and the missing images. I have transferred all the images from Facebook to photobucket and now I have to go back and figure which images went in which post. Facebook through the years has changed the address of nearly all my photos which is where I originally linked all the images to.

I took it to mean the site were the Railroad Fair was ... kind of wondering that myself. Is there anything currently on the grounds where the Railroad Fairs were held?
