I was in Brunswick, Md., just the other day, and noticed that the turntable there is out of service, with tracks and power severed. Thought it might be noted here, so someone can keep an eye on it and perhaps, if the resources are available, get hold of it for preservation.

It's a 115-foot job, and would have handled locomotives as big as an EM-1 2-8-8-4. Length is the same as that of Jerry Jacobson's ex-WM table in Ohio. Don't know what kind of construction it is, but I would guess it's a "split" table, in two sections, which would make things like aligning the ring rail less critical than for a "continuous" table.

Also, the railroader's museum there is sponsoring an effort to move and preserve West Brunswick tower (WB).

Not to detract from the importance of keeping an eye out, but the turntable at Brunswick has been out of service for some time, like around 8 years or so. From what I understand, there is some serious degradation to the center pinion/bearing point. I know the WM turntable in Hagerstown came apart in 3 sections. I can't say how the B&O turntable is constructed.

It hasn't been out of service for eight years, I turned an engine on it since then, my guess would be no more than four, four and a half years. Sorry to hear about it's use being discontinued, and I hope it finds a good home.
