 Post subject: UP Eccentric Crank Testing Jig

Not quite sure what force it takes to spin a main crank pin out of quarter, but it must have happened often enough to warrant building a jig to test it on a regular basis.

Interesting that the UP apparently had so much work of this nature to come up with such a shortcut. This work can be done without such a rig, but it takes a bit longer as part of the whole job of reassembling and setting the valve gear after an overhaul.

No room for such creativity or originality with diesels it seems. . .

I wonder how the different ways to catch a slipping locomotive could have an effect on the quartering of a set of drivers?
