I believe you are thinking of one of the lines American built 2-10-4's. Some of these are still in existence, but have not operated since that accident. The line acquired some used 2-10-2's from another country (Bolivia perhaps?) to replace the 2-10-4's.

One of these 2-10-2's pulled a coal train on this same special trip that 2-8-2 #153 was photographed. I am not sure if any steam remains in regular service.

The Texan boiler explosion occurred in August 1981. The class dropped it's last fire in 1985. They ran at reduced boiler pressure between August 1981 and 1985.

The 2-10-2's came from Argentina via Bolivia in one long diesel hauled train.

Yes 2-10-2 205 with a Lempor exhaust hauled coal trains for a week in early July 2013.

Steam locomotives have been used fairly recently when a diesel was in for overhaul but regular steam ended in about 1994

205 replaced 210 as the working 2-10-2 about two years ago when the railway needed a steam locomotive in good technical condition to sub for a failed diesel.

The Far Rail charter is expected to repeat in July 2015.

There was some preliminary discussion about bringing the restored Baldwin Mallet 204 back to the railway to participate. However, there are no short coal cars left, the branch where they ran is gone and the Far Rail customer base is very discerning about authenticity. So the idea has been dropped.

In theory, Texan 300 which is cosmetically restored inside the new museum could be restored to operating condition but the cost estimate is 500K USD.

Does anyone have any specific info on the 2-8-2 #160 Baldwin that followed the 2-8-2 #150-159 class ALCO's on the FEDTC line?

I am hoping to learn whether the Baldwin was a later baldwin design or if Baldwin was required to use the previous ALCO #150-159 design, blueprints, etc.

That is rare, but it did happen. If it did, knowing that and getting to work on getting the blueprints for the #160, will help one particular US NG project that could sure use the blueprints.
