. . .in this case, a very nice Mallet page from International Steam of the UK: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/art ... ated04.htm Of particular interest, at least for me, would be the two Alco 2-6-6-0s that are supposedly still in South Africa, though derelict for a long time. That's a type you don't see every day! And check out the early Mallet features--the exposed dry pipe from the steam dome to the high pressure cylinders (strongly suggesting a saturated locomotive), and the arrangement of the reversing mechanism, which appears to have been copied directly from the B&O's "Old Maud" 0-6-6-0 of 1904. Hope they are still there, and may even have been rescued! |
