We are restoring a 1947 Railway Post Office car built by American Car Foundry and are needing some parts. Does anyone have a mail bag catcher arm that you might want to sell?
Thanks

I can't help you, Charley, but they shouldn't be too hard to fabricate if anybody might have drawings.

We have a 1920 CNR RPO that is also missing its arms.

Would anybody have drawings of appropriate arms that they would be willing to scan or photocopy for these cars? I'm sure there lots of others out there as well.

Try the Minnesota Transportation Museum, many many years ago they stripped several RPOs the were going to be scrapped.

The National Postal Museum in D.C. recreated the interior of an RPO about 15 years ago. I'm betting thay would have the relevant info/data if MTM doesn't have the hardware to spare.

The Post Office Dept. specifications for the postal apartment and furnishings for a railway mail car were published in the 1922 Car Builder's Cyclopedia. It has drawings of most the equipment. This might be available on-line through Google Books, it has also been scanned and made available on CD from Raildriver for about $30:

These are high quality scans with a nice front end and a utility to print to scale; well worth the money.

I have no interest in Raildriver, just a satisfied customer.

ON EDIT: Whoops, I totally missed the fact that this was a Canadian restoration of a Canadian car, so the USPO spec.s aren't going to be the last word, although they may be similar. I wonder if the Canadian Gov't archives has a copy of similar Royal Canadian Mail specifications?
