I think the caption on another photo from railpics sums it up nicely:

Quote:
Built in 1913 by St. Louis Car Co. for the Southern Traction Co. In 1917 Southern Traction Co was purchased by Texas Electric who went out of business in 1948 and #316 was sold into private ownership and used as a cabin on a ranch near Ft. Worth Texas. After undergoing an extensive restoration it was operated as a dinner train in Cape Charles, VA. Now operated by the Wisconsin Great Northern tourist line located in Trego, WI, this car is in complete operating condition and looks great inside and out

It looks perfect for low season operations on the WGN, sort of a pre-Budd Car.

We visited the W&GN this past summer and got a chance to take a short switching ride on this self-propelled ex-Texas Electric interurban car. The interior of the car is quite nice as you can see from the attached photo. Note in the previous photo that the trucks are from a CTA 4300-series elevated car. The car is diesel hydraulic powered as I recall.

Thanks!

This car was one of the rebuild/restorations done by Edwards Rail car. If I'm remembering right, they got it shortly before they moved the operation from Florida to Alabama.
It is a diesel with a hydrostatic drive.....Its pretty similar to the drive on a tamper. I'm not sure how well it actually works....Most hydrostatic drives don't "drift" very well...
The car did come out of Texas and was sold to the Baytree operation, which didn't seem to last long....

It is great to know that this car has found a new home... I had heard that it was for sale but hadn't heard anything else. Much appreciated!!!
