Post subject:  New Haven Washboad MU Controller help

Hi guys,

I have of a 1950s Pullman Standard Washboard MU controller, and I'd like to fix it up. I am curious if anyone here has any experience with these parts? The controller is a Westinghouse.

So far, I've had it mostly disassembled, but I have held off on cleaning and polishing the parts. There seems to be some regular light oil on some parts, and then there is this thick grease that almost looks like mushy brass.

Is this a special grease, or has the brass from the electrical contacts flaked off and tinted the grease brass?

Also, I'd like to give it a new coat of paint and buff off some of the rust. I've had some small conversations with people at the New Haven historical society, but i have not been able to find a specific answer. Some parts look black, others dark green/black.

I'm fairly new to this, so i'm hoping someone might be able to put me in the right direction.

Thanks!
Chris
