Post subject:  F3's at Steamtown - news

DL&W 663 and 664 concluded their operating season at Steamtown two weekends ago. Both have been drained and winterized. Actually, only #664 had a full season as #663 developed a bad air compressor issue on the trip to Delaware Water Gap in June and was taken out of service for the rest of the season.
663 compressor vibrated violently at higher RPM's and the summer was spent trying to determine the cause which now is said to be a bent crank in the compressor. The bad compressor was removed in the Steamtown Machine shop and we are looking into the costs of needed repairs. Estimates have it at a $6,000 to $8,000 repair. We and Tri-State NRHS are looking at various fundraising campaigns to help with the cost of repairs.
Without the other A unit #664 was mostly restricted to yard shuttle service for most of this season.
