After looking at a few pics of the backhead of 1630 I am wondering: what type of stoker does she have? Doesn't look familiar to me. Thanks in advance.

Bill:
As I recall, 1630 has a Standard model "BK" stoker...

Borrowed from the 'net. Here is a pic of the stoker on 1630. Does not look like a BK.

This is likely one of the catalog options for the Standard stokers, which is the variant that has the firedoor built into the elevator's top. This allows you to put a stoker in a locomotive without having to modify the door sheets with the enlarged opening for the more typical variant. The way to tell if its a BK or an HT is if one of IRM's steam team chimes in and tells whether or not the auger extends up to the top of the elevator or not.

Greetings:
Sorry, I must be getting forgetful in my old age: 1630 has a BK-1 stoker, see fig.5.18 in the 1930 Locomotive Cyclopedia.
There is only a front conveyor screw on 1630, no elevator screw like on an HT or HT-1.
The throttle lever was common on FRISCO locos, 4500 has one as I recall (but check it out, I HAVE been known to be wrong).
Be well,
J.David

Thanks Dave. What threw me was the bolted flange where the elevator comes together. Didn't look familiar.

It may also look a little odd as it is incomplete.

The stoker has not been used in many years and, when assembling for the tests this Fall we did not reconnect the steam lines. That will be done over Winter and we will also do some assessment of the mechanism to see what would be required to be made operational. The benefit is rather limited on the IRM demonstration line and loads.
