Somewhere on YouTube there is a video of the construction of Canadian Pacific's two 4-8-4s, and that has actually been here at RyPN in the past.

I don't know if this is the version that was up before or not, but the music accompanying this silent film leaves something to be desired, so you may want to turn the sound off, and imagine what you would really hear:

We may also be interested in this video from France on the construction of French 241-P locomotives, which were 4-cylinder compounds. One item of interest is that at about 12:40, the locomotive runs over a camera in a pit, and you can briefly see inside cylinders and a crank axle in action!
