Coupled up and on the move. Coolest part? She still has her voice. :) There's a couple videos up so far, but this is one of the better ones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjAMMq-y06o There's just something that people love about seeing a piece of our heritage brought back to life. If no one was interested, would UP really have begun work on what so many called "impossible"? A lesson/encouragement to all rail museums out there: Be excited about what you get to do, and in so doing get other people excited too. Classy, UP. Simply classy. :) |

Awesome video! I had to love a couple of the ironies, I'm sure intentional, but the UP lead unit numbered 4884, and the two or three "tugs" as the engineer had to keep throttling up to get enough force to get her going; definitely says something that 4014's "dead weight" alone. There'll definitely be some funny looks from drivers that see that passing along the way! |

when 765 was moved from Lawton park the pistons were still operable and it was whooshing all the way during the move. |

You could either siphon some air from the brake lines, or the crew in the tender could have a small air compressor with them. Granted there would have to be some piping redone to make that possible, but it isn't improbable. |

easier then you may think, because the Rail Giant's Museum already had the whistle plumbed up for compressor operation on the museum grounds. |

The video shows that the piston rods have been removed from the 4014 for shipment, as should be done for any extended towing of a steamer cold. |

oh, just saw the video, they had the pistons disconnected, aha, prolly hooked air to the whistle. hehe, the Fort Wayne Railfan society did that years ago when the engine was still parked at Lawton Park for some event. You could pressurize the boiler with air also if there were no leaks. |

I just read an article that mentioned "some newer equipment that UP donated to the RailGiants Train Museum" that replaced 4014. Anyone know what specific equipment this is? |
