IRM's acquisition of an E33 is a reality, Sandy. Just because you don't know about it, does not make it "fanciful."

The E33 in question is at RMNE's Old Saybrook facility and is being slowly prepped for the move west.

So when possibly is the E33 going to be showing up at IRM David?

When it shows up on the interchange track.

Seriously, ask Nick next time you see him.

Quick reply. I'll be sure to ask him the next time I see him.

I talked to Mr.Kallas today and he said that the acquisition of Virginian railway el/c is going at a good pace. I just to inform all of you as to what I was told.

Casual, OFF-THE-RECORD discussion with an Amtrak employee tonight:

Two AEM7's are currently being held for potential preservation: the two oldest (surviving) ones, 901 and 902, at Ivy City (Washington, DC) and Wilmington.

So far, there has been but one formal inquiry about acquisition of one. If you read this thread, you can guess who that is.

If anyone else has interest in one, they'd better hustle and make an inquiry NOW. Only qualified non-profit entities need apply, it goes without saying; political connections may be of use, and expect to cough up at least some money..

If anyone has delusions about saving an Amtrak HHP-8, on the other hand, they're not going to be dealing with Amtrak.

HHP-8 are leased-not owned. All are stored OOS at this writing.

Well, the Amtrak ones are, at any rate. ;-)

While I don't know when, I do know it's a done deal. I personally spoke with someone (who's asked to remain anonymous) who's involved and it'll ship when it's been prepped. I'll see him again in a few weeks and I'll be getting an update. Glad she was saved.

I know no one knows for sure but what sort of time frame are they thinking? Sometime next year, sometime in the next few years? It's been on someone's back burner for few years now, hasn't it?

Mind asking off the record what they plan to do with their remaining unconverted F40's.

It appears that Amtrak is experimenting with selling off AEM-7 jewelry on Ebay.

Currently a number board going for $300+. Are bells, horns, throttles, gauges, panagraph shoes next?

NY City Transit Authority sold (and may still sell) subway memorabilia, ranging from roll signs to brake valves.

For the nth time, Amtrak stated in its PRIIA document that any surplus equipment outside of the reserve fleet would be scrapped. This was done to address the concerns of equipment suppliers who did not want to be competing against second-hand rolling stock.

I received a photograph over the weekend that clearly shows No. 912 and at least two other AEM-7's being reduced at Bear. The sender asked that I not share the photo.
