It's still sitting in the dead line at Altoona as of a couple weeks ago. Still waiting for shop time.

Anyone who cares about the Amtrak AEM-7 enough should probably keep the (tentative) date of June 18th open. Just in case what I'm hearing about actually happens.

Lord, I hate mystery-meat posts! Sandy, for those of us not in the loop, when WHAT supposedly will happen?

I've already said too much. Just keep the date open if possible.

Wouldn't that be called the "Ikea Express"?

There have already been jokes that the box lunch is Swedish meatballs and toast (a play on both nicknames for the locos), and the souvenir is an IKEA hex wrench........

How about the "Flatpack Limited"?

June 18th will be an interesting day for Amtrak fans, that's also the rumored date of the Allentown - Newark "test run" on the former CNJ/LV mains (and a bit of the NEC).

Are they not keeping any as spares?

How that I've had my snarky fun I'd like to pose a serious question.

Since everyone would like to see some of the older power run i.e. GG1, is the unit that is being preserved in the Museum at Strasburg complete and operational? I've seen videos of several railroads, the RhB for example do power parades of historic and modern locomotives. I know the AEM-7s are not the prettiest of things but they ae coming out of service and will continue to be compatible in the future?

Anybody else thinking about going on the farewell trip? I just might, I spent a lot of years running up and down the NEC behind the beasts as an LSA. I wasn't able to make the GG1 farewell 33 years ago.

Not only operational, but it is the unit being used to pull the special.
