I got curious, and after some exploring on Google Maps I made a customer list for the SLRG. Not sure if it is 100% accurate as updated Google imagery is hard to come by in that area of Colorado.

As far as I can tell the two SD70M's (PRLX 4685 & PRLX 4687) and the F40M-2F (SLRG 459) are the current main motive power.

I haven't been there for a few years, but this is what I remember:

The cement plant has been inactive for several years.
Alta Fuels would get tanks cars of locomotive fuel., and nothing else.
Monte Vista Coop would ship a few cars of of seasonal grain.
The Bountiful elevator hasn't shipped anything since the UP left town - maybe before.
RH Lava (formerly Colorado Lava somewhat seasonal.
Dicalite (formerly Dicaperl - plant shuttered before UP sold out
IMerys - formerly Harborlite - Used to ship 25 cars/day. Hasn't done so since 2010 or so.
Pool chemical - seasonal fertilizer
Wilber - Ellis - ditto
Colorado Seed - inactive never was a customer of IPH
Mt. King Potatoes - ditto. Never an IPH customer.
Coors - good for about 16-24 cars a week.

Thanks for the list!
I had the Bountiful Elevator on the list because I found a 2019 photo of a covered hopper at the elevator.

I also had Mt. King Potatoes on the list because a reefer can be seen on the spur in 2012 Streetview imagery:

Dicalite in Antonito is closed? I wonder why they still list that plant on their website? That's weird.

Is there a list anywhere showing where the sold equipment is going and what hasn't been sold yet?

It would be good to keep track of what's not selling to either save before the closing bell or possibly work with the scrapper to salvage parts off of.

JMann that's a good idea. I suggest writing to the Trustee ( tom@connollytrustee.com)
and requesting a list of the equipment sold to date.

I am on his email list and have received quite a few notices of items ( mostly domes and E units) that the Trustee had agreed to sell a specified item(s) to a specific named buyer at a specific price per unit. The way it's working is that these notices solicit others to over bid on these items by a date certain, otherwise they'll go to the buyer shown at the price shown.

My guess is that at the end of the day the vast majority of the coaches especially will get sold at a no reserve auction and an unfortunate number of them will end up being sold to scrappers?? Hope I'm proven wrong but there's a finite number of prospective buyers and the size of this fleet is FAR larger than the size of the prospective buyers.

Time will tell. Ross Rowland

With all the "no shippers" listed I wonder what outside of the traffic off the San Luis Central
there is to make this a viable railroad with heavy expenses?

I live in La Veta and can confirm that the SD70m’s are the only active power going over la veta pass (SLRG 459 may be running in alamosa but I dont see it come our way. A lot of the stored cars on the lines out of alamosa are gone as well. I would love to get a business car in bad shape from them and turn it into a bed a breakfast in la veta the tourism still is pretty substantial despite covid.

I went and checked out the two SLRG passenger cars in Bensenville today (3351 and 4202) along with the Marc E9 (former CB&Q 9973). I'll be shocked if these survive as bad of shape as they are in.

Those two cars were part of the former GM&O Lincoln IL depot restaurant until IP agreed to take them in 2015 when the depot was being redeveloped, the part of IC 3351 that connected to the restaurant had holes cut in it even then. The other side was painted as IC (is that MBTA paint on this side?) here it is when they were removing it from depot property.

RBMN plans for Carbon line
https://www.tnonline.com/20210508/rr-ow ... rbon-line/

Very good article detailing the Reading & Northern's recent purchase of the Carbon Line from the county. Of note and pertinence to this thread is the following:

Quote:
Another new venture the railroad is hoping to begin is passenger excursions from the Wilkes-Barre area to Jim Thorpe on weekends since Muller recently purchased a new stock of passenger coaches from a bankruptcy sale in Colorado.

Anyone know which coaches they were? I’m really hoping that the R&N might now own a former RDG Crusader observation car.

The RBMNRR has bid on quite a few railcars.

The court has already approved the sale of 4 ex-Southern RR coaches, including the famed "Lookout Mountain" to the RBMNRR. Pending sales include the ex MILW dome car from the ex-Spirit of Washington Dinner Train (a sister car to RBMN #4) and the ex-IC Calumet Club.

Hope that answers your question.

Nice! That’s all the full domes now I think?

Still some amazing private cars and sleepers available. I wonder how low of a bid they would consider? (Asking for a friend :-p )

Really? What’s the scrap value of a sleeping car?
