Looking at some of the other cars stored with the #280, I'm assuming it is left over from the previous Upper Hudson River RR, so that being the case, are these cars now owned by Iowa Pacific or another party?

Looking at the photo of the #280 again, I'm wondering if it is owned by Southwind Rail Travel, Ltd. (SRTX), which owns several cars:

B&M 56 seat chair-10 seat smoker #4806 Chickadee (P-S, Lot #W6778, Plan #W46352, 1947). Sold in 1957 to Wabash #1423, to N&W #1830, sold in 1971 to Jones Properties, then to RR Passenger Cars, Inc., later (when??) resold to SRTX.

B&O 16DXR-4DB sleeper #7109 Thrush (Budd, Lot #9658-137, Plan #9536, 1954). Sold in 1969 to Hamburg Industries, Inc. and leased to SCL as #6706, to Amtrak in 1971 as Slumbercoach #2016, renumbered in 1976 to standard sleeper #2536. Retired at an unknown date and sold (in 1985??) to SRTX. Was there another party who owned the Thrush before SRTX?

L&N 60 seat chair #3262 (AC&F, 1955, Lot #04-4403, South Wind). To Amtrak in 1971 as #6058, retired at an unknown date and sold in January 1983 to SRTX. Was there another party who owned the #3262 before SRTX?

Additions and Updates:

First, as reported by Geno Dailey over on Trainorders, Iowa Pacific has added another sleeper to the active pool:

Belleville (2nd), 5C-6DB sleeper built in 1952 by Budd in Lot #9641-112 to Plan #9534 as CB&Q #451 Silver Quail for the California Zephyr. To Amtrak in 1971 as #2201 (designated as a 11DB sleeper), later stored until converted to HEP in 1983 as #2220 (2nd). Listed for sale in December 1995 and sold in 1997 to ITAX?, later to MRLX #800712.

This was 1 of 2 Iowa Pacific cars which Geno requested the history for on Trainorders, the other was nee-C&O sleeper buffet lounge blunt end observation #3312 Adirondack Club (#800224, originally C&O #2500 Blue Ridge Club). Geno saw and photographed both cars last November during a multi-train Amtrak trip, and will be posting these and other photos in an upcoming travelogue on his website.

Iowa Pacific has followed Amtrak's designation of the 5-6 cars as 11 bedrooms in order to keep with their theme of renaming cars into the IC naming system, as the first Belleville was IC 11DB sleeper #3501 (P-S, Lot #6913, Plan #4168A, 1953).

As I have not been able to find any photos of the Belleville online, I don't know if this car has been "repainted" to IC Chocolate & Orange (a vinyl application, which has been used on 2 other Budd cars, nee-SP baggage-dormitory Sunset Harbor and nee-NYC diner #448). Also, I don't know where Geno saw the Belleville, so I can't confirm its assigned to Pullman Rail Journeys service on the City of New Orleans, but that's what I'm supposing at this time. Also, does anybody know if the Belleville has been acquired from Mid-America, or is it under a lease agreement, the same as the Sunset Harbor? Thanks in advance!

Second, with the states now responsible for funding the short-to-medium-distance regional Amtrak trains, Indiana is in the process of switching from an Amtrak-provided Hoosier State to a Hoosier State operated by a third party vendor, specifically Iowa Pacific. For the initial switch over, Iowa Pacific has provided 2 chairs and 2 full domes. Motive power will be 2 ex-NJT GP40FH2's, from a total of 7 acquired via Motive Power Resources. As the equipment selected will be operated as a regularly scheduled intercity revenue passenger train, this moves it from the PV category into one with additional mechanical requirements/regulations, so the cars and engines have gone through additional upgrades and inspections prior to the switchover.

Of the 2 chairs, 1 each is of UP and SP heritage. On the identity of the UP chair, I'm guessing this is MRLX #800880 The Reveler (ex-Bryce Canyon, exx-Amtrak HEP #4618 [converted 1979], exxx-#4554, nee-UP #5489, StLCC, Lot #1807, 1960, 44 seats). Stored in January 1995 and sold in 2001. The Reveler was formerly assigned to the Saratoga & North Creek, and before that was part of the startup consist on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay. Is The Reveler still under lease from Mid-America, or has it been purchased? Also, does anybody know if the car has again been renamed to suit it's new assignment to the Hoosier State? Thanks in advance!

Regarding the SP chair, this is one of the cars built by Budd in either 1950 or 1954. Most likely, this is MRLX #800748 Golden Sand (ex-ITAX, exx-Amtrak HEP ADA #4010 [40 seats, converted 1981], exxx-#4411, nee-SP #2378, Budd, Lot #9613-040, 1950, originally 44 seats). Listed for sale in December 1995. Almost all of the cars in this Lot were built for the Sunset Limited (without names), however 2 of the chairs, including Golden Sand, were built for the Golden State; the other was Golden Ore, which is now Grand Canyon #2095 Anasazi. To match the Golden Sand, Mid-America applied Golden-series names to it's 3 other nee-SP Sunset Limited Budd chairs. The Golden Sand was also part of the startup consist on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay. Is this car also still under lease from Mid-America, or has it been purchased? Has this car been renamed as part of reassignment to the Hoosier State? Thanks in advance!

Regarding the 2 nee-AT&SF full domes, #554 Summit View (#800136) has gone through the necessary upgrades and inspections same as the 2 chairs; #511 Scenic View (#800124) will also be upgraded and inspected.

Lastly, although not passenger cars, Iowa Pacific has begun repainting their ex-CEFX SD90/43MACs into IC Chocolate & Orange. #111, lettered for the Texas New Mexico Railway (TNMR), was photographed by Kevin Sies in fresh IC paint on March 23rd at Metro East Industries in East St. Louis. More Additions & Updates:

First, the former C&A/Alton depot in Lincoln, IL, was formerly occupied by a restaurant, which recently closed, and the depot is now owned by the city (might have been while in use as an eatery, unconfirmed at this time). As part of the restaurant, 2 IC passenger cars were parked there (as well as 2 unidentified cabooses), which the city is now planning to have removed in order to remodel the depot. As posted on Trainorders, it would appear that Iowa Pacific will be acquiring and moving both cars:

10 seat lunch counter 16 seat diner 16 seat lounge #4202, ex-22RM sleeper Flossmoor, nee-NYC #10426 Chippewa Bay (P-S, Lot #6790, Plan #4122, 1948). Sold to IC in 1959, rebuilt to #4202 in 1964, retired in 1971 and sold to a C.W. Taylor in Calvert City, KY, later resold (when?) to the restaurant in Lincoln.

36 seat lounge #3351 Capitol Street, ex-lounge-chair #3700 Fulton, nee-88 seat coach #2176 (Pullman, Lot #4406, Floorplan #6-B-90, 1916). Rebuilt to #3700 in 1947, rebuilt to #3351 in 1951 for the Panama Limited, retired and sold at an unknown date. Does anybody know what the seating arrangement/capacity was of this car as the #3700 Fulton, or what the original 4-digit Pullman Plan was? Was there another party who owned the #3351 before it was moved to Lincoln? Perhaps C.W. Taylor? Thanks in advance!

Second, it appears that Iowa Pacific is making additional cars available for the Hoosier State. Yesterday in Walworth, WI, Bob Jordan photographed 2 of Iowa Pacific's ex-MARC coaches, nee-PRR sleepers en route to Wisconsin & Southern's paint booth in Horicon. As neither of the cars photographed appear to be in either IC paint or the D&H paint of cars assigned to the Saratoga & North Creek, then these are 2 of 3 possible cars (Iowa Pacific owns a total of 6):

All 3 cars were built in 1949 as 21RM sleepers by Budd in Lot #9667-024 to Plan #9513 in Class PS21B, rebuilt in 1963 to 64 seat commuter coaches with 12 seat smokers (Inn-series names removed, Class P85L), sold in 1976 to SEMTA and reconfigured to 82 seats, converted in 1994 to HEP for MARC by TTA at Hornell, retired in 2001 and later sold to the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum, and acquired by Iowa Pacific in 2011.

#145/#800814 Carnegie Inn, ex-Hagerstown, exx-MARC #145, exxx-SEMTA #105 Clawson, exxxx-PC #1500, exxxxx-PRR #1500, nee-sleeper #8250 Carnegie Inn. Most recently assigned to the Cape Cod Central.

#149 Steubenville Inn, ex-Hagerstown, exx-MARC #149, exxx-SEMTA #111 Birmingham, exxxx-PC #1528, exxxxx-PRR #1528, nee-sleeper #8284 Steubenville Inn. Most recently stored on the Cape Cod Central at Hyannis. Does anybody know if this car has a #800xxx-series number? Thanks in advance!

#140/#800767 Tyrone Inn, ex-Hagerstown, exx-MARC #140, exxx-SEMTA #110 Berkley, exxxx-PC #1524, exxxxx-PRR #1524, exxxxxx-21RM #8287 B.F. Jones (2nd), exxxxxxx-James Hay Reed (1st), nee-Tyrone Inn. Most recently assigned to the Saratoga & North Creek.

Lastly, I forgot to mention that in one of the Trainorders threads I linked to previously, Ed Ellis stated that the next car scheduled to enter the shop in Alamosa for heavy rebuild is MILW Skytop sleeper Coffee Creek.

IP "Belleville", former Q-CZ "Silver Quail" has been wrapped in the chocolate and orange vinyl covering. The wrap job was very nicely applied. I escorted the car from Beech Grove to Chicago on Amtrak 851 in early March 2015.

Hopefully soon some photos of the car will be found. I would bet that it looks great, like most of the other IP cars that have been repainted. Now if we could convince Ed Ellis to paint Coffee Creek into the same paint scheme as the Caritas... now that would be special indeed (though a traditional MILW paint would also be as beautiful)!!!

First,

Thanks, Don, for confirming that the Belleville received the vinyl application!

Thanks, NH1402, for the photo of the Belleville!

Jerry, as is shown on Iowa Pacific's Indiegogo fundraising page for the Coffee Creek, which I had linked to earlier in this thread, they do intend on painting this car in IC Chocolate & Orange.

Here's a Trainorders thread posted by Ed Ellis on 9/19/14 announcing the fundraising effort for the Coffee Creek: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,3526397

And here's the Indiegogo page: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/historic-railroad-sleeping-car-restoration#home

Second, here's some additional information and photos I was able to find:

The Steubenville Inn is #800813.

Is The Reveler still under lease from Mid-America, or has it been purchased? Also, does anybody know if the car has again been renamed to suit it's new assignment to the Hoosier State? Thanks in advance!

The Reveler has been renamed to Dyersburg, and is still MRLX #800880, as seen in this photo taken by Ed Ellis:

This car has been renamed to DuQuoin (lettered as DuQUOIN), as seen in the following photo taken by Justin Sobeck. More than likely, this is the Golden Sand, but I'm still in the process of confirming that.

Besides the Dyersburg and the DuQuoin, Iowa Pacific has at least one additional chair that is planned for renaming to the D-series: Dubuque, which is seen in the below photo taken by Justin Sobeck, apparently the second car back, still in Mid-America's Silver & Red scheme. Does anybody know what MRLX car this is? Thanks in advance!

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100996196775848&set=p.10100996196775848&type=1

Image

That being the case, besides the DuQuoin in the foreground, I see a second car in IC colors (the Dyersburg, perhaps?), and 2 additional chairs in Mid-America colors. So, is the second IC-painted car the Dyersburg, or another car? If the latter is the case, then Iowa Pacific has/is going to rename at least a total of 4 chairs to the D-series. Also, what's the status of the final 2 MRLX cars in the rear? Are these also slated for renaming to the D-series? Thanks in advance!

First, as I had reported earlier, Iowa Pacific sent 2 of their ex-MARC coaches (nee-PRR 21RM sleepers) to the WSOR paint shop, along with ex-NJT GP40FH-2 #4137.

As seen on Trainorders, on Sunday #4137 led a move of SLRG equipment from the WSOR shops back to Chicago. Besides the #4137 and the 2 coaches, 3 covered wagons were also part of this move, including the 2 ex-IC executive E's. The window for painting the equipment listed must have run out, as only the #4137 and 2 of the covered wagons were repainted to Chocolate & Orange, including ex-IC #100 (#101 is still in Silver & Black). I haven't been able to identify the other covered wagon which was painted.

As posted on Ed Ellis' Facebook page, nee-AT&SF full dome #513 has been repainted into a minimized version of Mount Hood Railroad's red, blue, and yellow pinstripe scheme for use on the dinner train. However, it appears that the planned name Columbia View was not applied. No word on if the name will be applied at a later date, or if the #509 will also be painted.

Some Additions:

As reported in a Trainorders thread, Iowa Pacific has acquired 5 El Capitan Hi-Levels: 3 chairs, 1 chair-dormitory-transition, and 1 diner. These are 5 of the 8 cars which are listed on Phil Dohmen's DOMEmain website as owned by John Radovich/John's Trains Incorporated in Dallas. The cars were photographed enroute to Alamosa, CO, with DLT reporting marks, which somebody theorized might be DLTX, for Dale L. Thornborough. The cars acquired by Iowa Pacific are:

AT&SF 68 seat chair-transition #544 (Budd, Lot #9679-320, 1964), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #9918, converted in 1981 at Topeka to HEP 36 seat chair-16 bunk dormitory-transition #39918, retired in 2003.

AT&SF 80 seat diner #654 (Budd, Lot #9668-166, 1956), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #9984, converted in 1985 at Topeka? to HEP #39984, retired in 2003.

AT&SF 72 seat chair #707 (Budd, Lot #9670-166, 1956), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #9947, converted in 1981 at Topeka to HEP #39947, retired in 2003.

AT&SF 72 seat chair #709 (Budd, Lot #9670-166, 1956), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #9949, converted in 1981 at Topeka to HEP #39949, retired in 2003.

AT&SF 72 seat chair #723 (Budd, Lot #9670-166, 1956), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #9963, converted in 1980 at Topeka to HEP #39963, retired in 2003.

A follow-up on the Syracuse...

Patricia Henschen posted two shots of the car on the SLRG back in September 2013...

She's a very prolific photographer and I am grateful for her being willing to share her work. Her albums are full of some really great photos!!!

Ken Murray has posted a more recent shot of the car on RR Picture Archives...

"As reported in a Trainorders thread, Iowa Pacific has acquired 5 El Capitan Hi-Levels..."

It says specifically in the TO threads that the Hi-Levels are still owned by Radovitch and are on lease to SLRG.
