Thanks, Topfuel, for the correction!

Also posted by Ed Ellis in the TO thread: the reporting mark on these cars is actually DALT, for Dallas Terminal Railway, and Iowa Pacific has already placed these in service, having used them on the Polar Express in Lubbock.

The cars at the Lincoln Depot. Work underway to free the SLRG stock. Each car has about a 12 foot panel cut out for the restaurant. It seems like the brake systems and trucks are all there.

Thanks, Dave, for the update and photos!

Just to reiterate, these 2 IC cars are the:

Panama Limited 36 seat lounge #3351 Capitol Street. Built in 1916 by Pullman in Lot #4406 to Floorplan #6-B-90 as IC 88 seat coach #2176, rebuilt in 1947 to lounge-chair #3700 Fulton (1st) (exact configuration unknown), reconfigured in 1951 to #3351.

10 seat lunch counter 16 seat diner 16 seat lounge #4202. Built in 1948 by P-S in Lot #6790 to Plan #4122 as NYC 22RM sleeper #10426 Chippewa Bay, sold in 1959 to IC as the Flossmoor, reconfigured in 1964 to #4202.

The CORNELIA is currently located in the Amtrak, Hialeah coach yard. Abandoned in 1991, it is most likely that it will be cut up for scrap in the near future.

Chuck,

Thanks for the info on the Cornelia!

Additions & Corrections:

Besides ACL 54 seat chair #239 (SCL/Amtrak/SLRG #5461) and Wabash parlor lounge observation #1600, Iowa Pacific acquired at least 2 other cars from the Memphis Transportation Museum:

AT&SF 4DB-4C-2DR sleeper #1806 Regal City (P-S, Lot #6757, Plan #4144, 1948), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #2361, retired in July 1981 and sold in 1982 to MTM as #2361/#800331, renamed Winston Hoover. Iowa Pacific acquired this car c. 2012 as SLRG #9119, and it is planned for renaming to Gilman (2nd). I had previously listed that the former IC 4-4-2 sleeper Gilman (1st), acquired by IC in 1958, ex-NYC #10032 Eads Bridge, exx-Imperial Highlands, nee-PULL (P-S, Lot #6540, Plan #4069B, 1938) had been acquired as the #9119 (IC sold the Gilman [1st] to the Tampo Manufacturing Company in San Antonio in 1968).

AT&SF 28 seat club lounge-steward's room-shower-dormitory #1372 Picuris (Budd, Lot #979, 1937, steward's room originally barber shop), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #3380, retired in February 1981 and sold to MTM, renamed Dyersburg. Iowa Pacific acquired this car c. 2012. as SLRG #1372.

Besides the #9119 Gilman (2nd) listed above, I had previously listed that SLRG #9118 Grenada (2nd) was the former IC 4-4-2 Grenada (1st), acquired by IC in 1958, ex-NYC #10015 Imperial Crown, nee-PULL (P-S, Lot #6617, Plan #4069E, 1940), sold in 1968 to Railco, later to Craig A. Rasmussen/Overland Rail Travel. SLRG #9118 Grenada (2nd) is really the former SP 4-4-2 #9118 (P-S, Lot #6871, Plan #4069M, 1950), sold in 1971 to Amtrak #2380, retired in July 1981 and sold in 1982 to Anbel Corp., later to Les Kasten, then to Golden Arrow Tours, then to Wisconsin & Calumet, then to private owner, acquired by Iowa Pacific c. 2013.

This means that only SLRG #9117 Greenville and #9120 Galena are actually former IC, nee-NYC Imperial-series sleepers. The Greenville was built in 1940 in Lot #6617 to Plan #4069E as the Imperial Chariot, to NYC in 1945, to #10000, to IC Greenville in 1958, to Philip Belz in 1968, later to Gray Tuttle/Waccamaw Coast Line RR (WCLR) #10000, acquired by Iowa Pacific in 2012. The Galena was built in 1938 in Lot #6540 to Plan #4069B as the Imperial House, to NYC in 1945, renamed Brooklyn Bridge in 1949, to #10033, to IC Galena in 1958, to Texas Transportation Museum in 1968, acquired by Iowa Pacific in 2013.

Now, seeing as how Iowa Pacific has acquired at least 4 cars from MTM, I'm wondering if they also acquired 2 other ex-AT&SF 4-4-2 sleepers which I have not yet been able to account for:

AT&SF #1818 Regal Hill (P-S), to Amtrak #2365, retired in July 1981 and sold in 1982 to MTM as #2365/#800262 Rose Orgel.

AT&SF #1829 Regal River (P-S), to Amtrak #2367, retired in 1981 and sold in 1982 to MTM as #2367/#800200 Joseph S. Signaigo.

Well, additional threads posted on Trainorders by "wpjones" confirms that Iowa Pacific purchased a total of 5 cars from Dave Varilek.

This is SP #10411/Amtrak #8324. Besides the #8321, the other 4 Pride of Texas cars acquired by Amtrak were selected for conversion to HEP, but these plans were later cancelled and the cars remained in storage until sale in the 1990's. Specifically, "Amtrak by the Numbers" says that the #8324 was listed for sale in March 1994.

Here's some photos I took of the #8324 in Alamosa back on Saturday, July 20th:

I recall that these 2 cars were scrapped on the Columbus & Greenville in the early to mid 2000's. Those cars along with some of the other Memphis fleet was on long term lease to CAGY, the cars were shoved out into the woods, vandalized, and subsequently scrapped.

Thanks, MRLX1020, for the info! Among the other MTM cars that were leased to CAGY and later scrapped, would this include 10-6 sleeper NYC #10188 St. Francis River/CN #2084 Riviere Raquette/VIA/MTM #800074 Dolly Wurtzburger and 54 seat chair ACL #228/SCL #5450/Amtrak/Tom McOwen/MTM #800059 Le Bonheur Cadillac Club? I haven't found any disposition/sale info for these 2 cars. Thanks in advance!

Here are some additional pictures I took in Alamosa. Most of these were taken on Saturday, July 20th, and the rest on Monday, July 22nd.

Pullman 12S-1DR sleeper Woodland (Lot #6360, Plan #3410B, 1930, Portland Limited). Sold to Jack Ferris' Private RR Cars, Inc. (1965), resold to OP&E (when??), acquired by Galveston RR Museum (when??) then to Iowa Pacific (201?). "Surviving Pullman" thread line item #71. Does anybody know the SLRG number for this car? Thanks in advance!

Additions & Updates:

I found a video on YouTube of the Polar Express excursion on the recently-acquired Grenada RY (ex-IC/CN Grenada Sub), featuring several cars which are either additions to the fleet, have recently been placed into service, or have recently received Chocolate & Orange paint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5TAdb86EiQ

IC streamlined heavyweight 40 seat club lounge observation #3320 Paducah (ex-Carolina Southern [CALA] #3320 City of Myrtle Beach, exx-IC #3320 Paducah, nee-88 seat coach #2173, Pullman, Lot #4406, 1916, rebuilt 1947) has been placed in service and painted Chocolate & Orange.

IC modernized heavyweight 64 seat coach #2904 (ex-Ozark Mountain, exx-unknown party/parties, exxx-IC #2822, exxxx-#2904, nee-88 seat coach #2221, Pullman, Lot #4519, 1918, modernized 1937 to #2904 and unknown year to #2822) has now been painted in full Chocolate & Orange. When I saw this car in Alamosa back in June, it was in basic Chocolate paint, with no Orange band or Yellow pinstripes/lettering, as seen here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4255307 and here: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4255309.

PRR parlor-turned-cafeteria #7139 Henry Hudson (Budd, Lot #9628-110, Plan #9526, 1951, PRR Class PP85 29 seat parlor-1DR, to buffet parlor, to PC, to Amtrak in 1971, planned as #3639 [not applied], to 46 seat buffet lounge #3320, to HEP Auto Train 32 seat cafeteria car #8703 in 1983, stored in 1994, sold in 1995 to Branson Scenic City of Branson, to ITAX?, to Mid America Railcar Leasing [MRLX] #800644 Keystone Grill) is now Passenger Railcar Services Corporation (PAXX) #800644 Warriors Rest and leased to Iowa Pacific in Chocolate & Orange (likely a vinyl application, like some of the other Budd cars in the Iowa Pacific fleet).

N&W sleeper-turned-commuter coach Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Budd, Lot #9660-033, Plan #9523, 1949, to PRR Class P85M 72 seat coach-12 seat smoker #1480 in 1964 [no name] in Budd Lot #9621-380, to PC #1480, to Conrail #1480, to Maryland DOT #1401, to MARC #101 Virginia Polytechnic Institute, sold in 2001 to Southwest GA RR Excursion Authority/SAM Shortline/Heart of Georgia RR [SWGX] #101, leased [when??] to Inland Lakes RY/Florida Rail Adventures, sold in 2013 to TVRM), now in service as MRLX #1480 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and leased to Iowa Pacific in Chocolate & Orange (likely vinyl). Question: did plans/priorities change at TVRM, and the decision was made to also sell the #1480 and #1488 to MRLX along with the #1498, or do these 2 carry said reporting marks for [an]other reason[s] (UMLER, etc.)?

N&W sleeper-turned-commuter coach Emory and Henry College (Budd, Lot #9660-033, Plan #9523, 1949, to PRR Class P85M 72 seat coach-12 seat smoker #1488 in 1964 [no name] in Budd Lot #9621-380, to PC #1488, to Conrail #1488, to Maryland DOT #1409, to MARC #109 Emory and Henry College, sold in 2001 to Southwest GA RR Excursion Authority/SAM Shortline/Heart of Georgia RR [SWGX] #109, leased [when??] to Inland Lakes RY/Florida Rail Adventures, sold in 2013 to TVRM), now in service as MRLX #1488 Emory and Henry College and leased to Iowa Pacific in Chocolate & Orange (likely vinyl). Question: did plans/priorities change at TVRM, and the decision was made to also sell the #1480 and #1488 to MRLX along with the #1498, or do these 2 carry said reporting marks for [an]other reason[s] (UMLER, etc.)?

NYC 44 seat grill diner #466 (Budd, Lot #9644-004, 1948, to PC #4566, to Amtrak in 1973 as #8338, to HEP diner #8514 in 1980, stored in 2007? and sold that same year? to MRLX #8514), now renumbered to MRLX #466 and leased to Iowa Pacific in Chocolate & Orange (also likely a vinyl application).

N&W sleeper-turned-commuter coach Ohio State University (Budd, Lot #9660-033, Plan #9523, 1949, to PRR Class P85M 72 seat coach-6 seat snack bar #1498 in 1964 [no name] in Budd Lot #9621-380, to PC #3240, to Conrail #3240, to Maryland DOT #1414, to MARC #105 Ohio State University, sold in 2001 to Southwest GA RR Excursion Authority/SAM Shortline/Heart of Georgia RR [SWGX] #105, leased [when??] to Inland Lakes RY/Florida Rail Adventures, sold in 2013 to TVRM, to MRLX #1498 Ohio State University, painted in N&W Tuscan Red with N&W lettering), has been used on TVRM and NS steam trips, still in Tuscan Red paint. Question: is the #1498 just under temporary lease to Iowa Pacific?

GN 24 seat dome-46 seat leg rest chair #1331 (Budd, 1955, to BN #4611 [not applied], to Amtrak in 1971 as #9471, to HEP #9410 in 1984, sold in 1995 to Montana Rockies Daylight [BKSX] #9410, MRD acquired in 1998 by to Oregon Rail Corp., name changed to Montana Rockies Rail Tours, most MRRT cars sold in 2001 to Rail Quest America [RQAX], including #9410, sold in 2004 to Philip Sheridan-IFE Leasing as MRLX #9410, leased 2005-2007 to Alaska RR, leased 2009-2012 to CVSR as Emerson [1st], Wabash colors applied in 2015 [again, likely vinyl] as #9410 Jackson Square and used on TVRM and NS steam trips), now leased to Iowa Pacific in Chocolate & Orange, still as MRLX #9410 Jackson Square (again, likely vinyl).

Also in the consist, but not additions/updates, were: PRR 21 RM sleeper-turned-Class P85L commuter coach #8251 Chambersburg Inn/#1544, which is now SLRG #133/#800766 Chambersburg Inn in Chocolate & Orange (located in the consist between Warriors Rest and Virginia Polytechnic Institute), nee-AT&SF full dome lounge #511/#800124 Scenic View in Chocolate & Orange (located in the consist behind Jackson Square), and ex-LIRR articulated bi-level commuter coach #3003A-#3003B, still in bare stainless steel (located in the consist behind Scenic View).

Here are several updates:

On Saturday, April 5th, 2014, 1st Post on Page #1, Rainier Rails wrote:
Here's the list of cars I've noted as acquired by Iowa Pacific. Additions and corrections are welcome. Thanks in advance.

AT&SF:

Turquoise Room short dome #501 Plaza Laguna [name not applied] (P-S, Lot #6836, Plan #7616, 1950, Super Chief) to Amtrak #9351. Acquired in 2012 from Washington Central/Columbia Basin Spirit of Washington #104 City of Seattle. Assigned to Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay.

Full dome #509 (Budd, Lot #9646-129, 1954) to Auto Train #521 then NYS&W. Acquired in 2007 from Westours Chena and planned to be renamed Cascade View (#800122). Assigned to Mount Hood Railroad.

Full dome #513 (Budd, Lot #9646-129, 1954) to Auto Train #524 then NYS&W #501. Acquired in 2009 from Westours Talkeetna and planned to be renamed Columbia View (#800134). Assigned to Mount Hood Railroad.

LIRR:

120 seat coach #2970 (P-S, Lot #W6973, Plan #W52607, 1956) converted in 1975 to commuter club #2990 assigned to Rio Grande Scenic as #2970. Damaged.
On Saturday, June 6th, 2015, 11th Post on Page #8, Rainier Rails wrote:
As posted on Ed Ellis' Facebook page, nee-AT&SF full dome #513 has been repainted into a minimized version of Mount Hood Railroad's red, blue, and yellow pinstripe scheme for use on the dinner train. However, it appears that the planned name Columbia View was not applied. No word on if the name will be applied at a later date, or if the #509 will also be painted.

First off, Iowa Pacific has reassigned the ex-Spirit of Washington Turquoise Room short dome to the Mount Hood Railroad, and the car is still in the Spirit of Washington paint scheme, but does have SLRG reporting marks as the #501.

Second, I can confirm that the #513 did indeed receive the planned name Columbia View, although at this time I am unsure of exactly when it was applied. I also need to confirm that the #509 has also been painted in the Mount Hood paint scheme, or if the planned name Cascade View has been applied.

Lastly, the #2970 has been reassigned/moved to the Mount Hood, and is currently parked on a siding near the shops without any windows and still in the dark brown/yellow pinstripe scheme.

I took photos of the #501, #513, and #2970 earlier this week (on Monday) in Hood River, and this afternoon I plan to go down to the depot again to see if I can confirm that the #509 has also been repainted. Here are three of the said photos, one of each:

It's been while since I saw the 2970...the paint scheme is still the same one used on the Orlando and Mount Dora tourist operation back in 2002....
There were five long island cars on that operation...one, I think it was 2926, was never delivered due to an issue with CSX flat spotting the wheels....it ended up with Strates shows.
The others were 2948, 2968, 2970 and 2974...
IC 3378 Calumet club and combine #290 (NYC?) Were also there...

Thank you, eze240, for the info!

Regarding the #509: when I went back down to the depot on Saturday afternoon, it was in between departures, so all of the cars were in the yard and not up on the line. However, I did not see the #509, so it is either currently in the shop or has been reassigned to another Iowa Pacific property. (This could explain why the #501 was reassigned to the Mount Hood.)

Last year I stopped at LSRHS, North East, PA, and the heavyweight Pullman cars are still there. Iowa Pacific leased them but has never actually moved them. CENTRAL PARK is among those still on site.

In December, 2020 Emory and Henry College was in service on holiday specials operated by the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, still wearing the vinyl wrap from service with Iowa Pacific and in Mt. Dora Florida.
