This is the Vulcan Iron Works in Wilkes-Barre, not the one in England.

There is confused information on the Web regarding who has the company's technical records from the last few years of its operation. I am specifically trying to track down the information on the type D 'conversion kit' it put together for USATC ... the setup that is on 2-8-0 611.

I have pretty well confirmed that the Army's copies of the information are gone, and that any 'surviving' documents that went with the locomotive are either lost or beyond reasonable location.

Contact information, if you have it, would be even more appreciated...

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, archivist. Some other material is at the Hagley museum in Delaware (?). I found the RMPa people very knoweldgable and responsive to my inquiries.

Didn't Baldwin own the "Vulcan" trucks (they look like Andrews design), like those still used under the 3' gauge EBT RY?

I believe there is some confusion between "Vulcan" and "Vulclain" here. Samuel Vulclain, an engineer, was president of Baldwin from 1919 to 1929, and chairman until his death in 1940. One of his greatest contributions was the Vulclain compound, which put both high and low pressure cylinders on each side of a locomotive, as opposed to the earlier cross compound design.

I believe there is some confusion about the VAUCLAIN family.

(Vulcain is a French watchmaking firm, if I recall correctly).

It wouldn't surprise me to find use of the name "Vulcan" for all sorts of forged products... considering what the god Vulcan did... and that you might not be able to copyright a god's proper name... ;-}

(EDIT -- I meant 'forged' in the sense of hot-hammered, not in the sense of faked or knocked-off.]

Thanks, I stand corrected on the spelling. It was zero-dark-something, and I was up and around with a bit of indigestion. I did look up the dates and confirm that the man had been President and Chairman at BLW, I just didn't get his name spelled correctly. Still, not Vulcan, an entirely different entity.

Now, according to http://www.rlhs.org/Reference/research.shtml , the Vulcan PHOTO NEGS are at Hagley, but I doubt they'll do you that much good. If Nick Zmijewski at the RR Museum of Pa. doesn't have access to what you're looking for, he'll point you in the right direction, I'm betting.

Another resource, if you are not familiar with it, is Worldcat - a master catalog operated by OCLC. OCLC is the catalog resource used by libraries world wide. Worldcat is the online reference used to locate, and borrow, through Inter-Library Loan (ILL) at your local library.

Worldcat is open to the public but does not allow anyone to actually access the book, paper, etc, nor set up a request to borrow. It does lists all libraries in your area and then the closest libraries to via zip Code location.

ASF was using the VULCAN title for their trucks, that had specific features.

Here is a mention of an ASF Vulcan truck blueprint from the "Freinds of the EBT" store;

It basically says that ASF American Steel Foundries manufactured the EBT"s Iconic trucks for the EBT. The drawings is dated 1915. If anyone gets a copy of that drawings, would you PM me and let me know home complete it is.
