Here's a mystery car:

Located at the Atchison Rail Museum (at the depot), which is operated by the North East Kansas Railroaders, Inc.

I couldn't find any straight-on photos of the car, but here it is in the left background of this photo on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/beihouphotography/8129555451/sizes/k/ (Zane Richards photo)

Does anybody know the identity of this car? Photos? Thanks in advance!

No information for this car on the museum website: http://nekr.tripod.com/ATCHISON_RAIL_MUSEUM.htm

The museum also has:

1. An MKT heavyweight baggage, as seen in the photo.

2. The museum website lists CB&Q baggage-30' RPO-locker room #1604 Silver Pouch (Budd, Lot #9611-112, 1952), which was built for the Kansas City Zephyr and transferred in 1956 to the Denver Zephyr.

3. Formerly at the museum were CB&Q 52 seat chairs #4703 Silver Gleam and #4704 Silver Glow, both of which were built by Budd in 1940 in Lot #96109 for the Silver Streak Zephyr, these 2 chairs were retained by BN in 1971 and became MofW #968108 and #968109 respectively. These cars are also not listed on the museum website, and are now in Charles City, IA, with CBRX reporting marks. Was the Silver Pouch also sold and moved to Charles City?

The Silver Pouch should still be at the museum in Atchison, but like the former Q pre-war coaches, is not owned by the museum, but is privately owned. The Pouch did not go to Charles City.

The car in the background is a former AT&SF, former Amtrak 44 seat coach built by PS in 1947 or 1950. Unfortunately, I don't have the number handy.

MRLX #4700 is now at the Heart of Dixie RR Museum, and according to their website, the car was acquired in 2007 by Chooch & Warbucks, LLC. Did Chooch & Warbucks lease the #4700 to Mid America for operation, and was it during that time that the #4700 received MRLX reporting marks and the name Tohatchi?

The #4700 was later renamed from Tohatchi to Kayenta, although I don't know if the car was renamed before or after coming to Heart of Dixie.

ATSF 505 has been owned by Louis Bradas since 1981. While it is located on and used by the Niles Canyon Railway, it still belongs to Lou.

As posted by MRLX1020 in the AOE thread (http://www.rypn.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=36689&start=15), here are some corrections for these 3 chairs:

#2822 to Amtrak #4816 to HEP #4705 (1980). Retired and sold in 1995 to Rail Journeys West and named El Capitan (Santa Clara, CA). Sold in 2004 to IFE Leasing and renamed Tolani (#800721).

Sold in 2007 to Chooch & Warbucks, named Kayenta (this name had been selected by Mid-America, and was applied after sale), and moved to the Heart of Dixie RR Museum (Calera, AL) (when??).

The #1477/#8030 was in the consist of the #4 at Lawrence, and of the 18 cars in the consist, received the most severe damage: the impact of hitting the retaining wall sheared off approximately a third of the car, resulting in the wreck's 2 fatalities.

Found a shot yesterday of this car in use on the Wyoming & Colorado, dated 1991... wonder of CRandIC sold or leased the coach to WYCO before being sold to Oklahoma Rwy. Museum?

Jerry--

I compared the above photo of the WYCO chair to those of Oklahoma RY Museum's #115, and I noticed one small difference: the photo I have linked to below reveals that 2 of the 3 lounge-restroom windows at the vestibule end are narrower on the WYCO chair than they are on the #115. Seeing as how both cars are Budd built and converted from observations, and the 3rd digit of the WYCO chair's number is definitely a 9, this narrows it down to the #3198/#2946:

#3198 seating reduced in 1947 to 36 chairs (leg rests?). Rebuilt (with flat end) in 1961 to 44 seat chair #2946. Sold in 1970 to PC and converted to 100 seat commuter coach #2424, later NJT #2424. Current status unknown.

#3198 and #3199 were both built in Lot #992 for the El Capitan, but were not rebuilt to mid-train chairs at the same time: #3199 was rebuilt in 1960, and #3198 in 1961; this could explain why the lounge windows are different.
