NYC 10433 "San Francisco Bay" has been found again. Up for sale on Ozark Mountain Railcar in their upcoming auction on 12/2/2015. Sitting at Chanute, KS next to the SKO (Watco). Unsure who the current owner is. Richard Longpre bought it in 95 after VIA retired these. $1000 staring bid, and according to OMR it is interchangeable.

Thanks, James, for the update on the San Francisco Bay/Val St. Patrice! For the curious, SKO is the South Kansas & Oklahoma.

#66 listed by Link as retired in August 1966 and sold to KCS, listed by Randall as retired in 1964 and sold to NdeM. Not listed by Wayner, so sale to NdeM might be incorrect, or the car was never placed into service. Current status unknown.

As posted by Brian Norden in the "Budd Observation Cars" thread, the #66 is now located in Vernon, CA, at the southeast corner of Alameda and Vernon. Now the question is, who exactly acquired the #66 from NYC, and when?

18 Cars, Budd, Lot #9644-004, 1948, NYC Lot #2178:

Ordered in March 1944 and delivered between March and May 1948. #450-#466 were built with 20 aisle-facing seats in the "grill" section at 8 tables, and 24 seats in a traditional dining section at 6 tables. The 10 cars remaining in service in 1973 were sold to Amtrak. Link lists different dates to Amtrak for each car, these dates might represent when the car was actually renumbered. Some of the dates listed by Link are from 1972, and 1 is as late as 1978. By 1972, with the continued PC bankruptcy proceedings and Amtrak negotiating what equipment would be acquired, it might've already been agreed that these 10 cars would be sold to Amtrak, effective 1973, hence some cars having already been renumbered, in advance.

#466 to PC #4566 to Amtrak #8338 in May 1974 (Link), converted in November 1980 to HEP #8514, in my notes I have this car as stored in 2007, while Warner lists it as retired in January 2007, subsequently sold (when??) to ITAX, then to Gateway as MRLX #8514. Current status unknown.

The #8514 has been renumbered to MRLX #466 and placed in lease service to Iowa Pacific in IC Chocolate & Orange (I'm assuming this is a vinyl application over the stainless). Used in the consist of the Polar Express on Iowa Pacific's Grenada RY (former IC/CN Grenada Sub), as seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5TAdb86EiQ

Footnote regarding cars sold to AFT: of the 2 cars acquired by AFT whose former NYC #91xx-series numbers are unknown, one became power car-dormitory #200, and is now UPP #205, and the other became power car #111, was later UPP #206, was resold in 2001 to Dave Varilek, then resold later that year to the Museum of America's Freedom Trains, and was resold in 2004 to the Pacific RR Preservation Association/Friends of the 700 as PRPX #111. Both of these cars had also been resold to the Canada Discovery Train, and were then also resold to UP. All other cars which reference this footnote are presumed to have been scrapped, except that the AFT website lists that 2 additional #91xx-series cars were acquired, but were not modified/rebuilt for use: one was scrapped (trucks [and possibly other parts?] saved), and the second is now in Willits, CA. The NYC numbers for these 2 additional cars are also unknown, for a total of 4.

Existing cars: one car whose NYC or Amtrak number is unknown is/was stored on the San Diego & Arizona Eastern at Jacumba, CA, along with a AT&SF (later Amtrak) leg rest chair (coach), also # unknown (which was leased to the San Bernardino RHS at one time). I also don't have info on the current/past ownership for either of these.

"Almost all cars received PC lettering with the same numbers,..."

Ted, I beg to differ on this; many, if not most of the cars that wound up as MOW or mechanical dept storage cars, scattered around the Northeast Corridor area, retained the NYC lettering and solid dark gray body, until they met their demise (usually scrapped on site).

That's the Lebanon Valley in Bellevue, OH. Sold to a guy quite a few years ago who shipped it to Bellevue, had it taken apart, and then lost interest in the project. And so it sits. One of the few NYC 10-6 sleepers - Budd or Pullman-Standard - left on the planet.

NYC tavern-lounge 41 has been repatriated to the United States, and is now owned by a private individual and is at the Austin Steam Train Assn. yard in Cedar Park, TX where its owner is restoring it for probable use on the excursion train.

I wasn't able to get any exterior photos when I was down, but its owner is a good friend and I'll try to get a few next time I'm down that way.

NYC Baggage 9180 was among the cars at Colonie, NY, reported all scrapped in the last two weeks. Car was in fair condition with original interior and very restore-able. Former NRHS Mohawk-Hudson Chapter collection IIRC. History would make more sense as that listed for car 9181 by Ted B above, as this car (9180) clearly was never repainted past NYC Gray and was the only NYC bag in Colonie. Photos taken 2/20/15.

Here are a couple of grab shots of the ex-NYC 41 at Cedar Park, TX taken last year.

Here's a car that's at the West Chester in West Chester. It's numbered 28209, it's PC MOW number. Anyone know of the original number?

THAT is a really, really interesting find, and is a car I did not know about. That is the dining room half of a twin unit diner. There were 9 of those built, and based on process of elimination, that may be the former NYC 404, built in 1947.
